How a CookShack smoker is made

The problem is we keep electing politicians who are lawyers by training, and many of China's top politicians are trained engineers. Xi Jinping - China's president, a chemical engineer. Obama - President USA,  a lawyer. Lawyer make deals, engineers make machines. China - One lawyer per 6,830...

    Wooden Smoker Build

Computer fans typically are DC 12v or 5v. You will need a DC power supply. Computer fans are electronic brushless type motor, which are heat sensitive. Better use a shaped pole motor fan, 120vac. It does not matter how you aim the fan. dcarch

    not another typical tar question

Here is something you can read: http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/sites/KerrMcGee/docs/Creosote%20Health%20Effects%20(Tronox).pdf By using a cold smoke generator equiped with a method of creosole condenser and electric heating for smoking, I basically do not have much problem with tar. dcarch

    Low and slow...the myth.

It's a good thing that we discuss topics such as this. Why under "identical situations", same meat, same smoker, same temperature, same cooking time, will work perfectly for some, but not for there other. Because there is always some conditions that make the condition not identical. Conditions...

    Low and slow...the myth.

I am not sure what the discussion is all about. There are a couple of things you can't change, does not matter who you are. 1. As long as there is moisture in the meat, you can't make it go hotter than 212 F, Hot or low. 2. Once that temperature gets to 212F, the physics law of thermal...

Heating element running weak on Cabela's electric smoker - why?

Assuming it is indeed the temperature control unit, which is Cabela's item IK-516114(double check please), order it from Cabela's customer service department. But before you buy, take a good look and make sure that you have the tools and skill to replace it yourself. dcarch

Heating element running weak on Cabela's electric smoker - why?

Absolutely. Extension cord for 1650 watts is an issue that needs to be considered. 3300 house fires and 50 deaths each year are started by electrical extension cords used for electric heaters.  dcarch

Heating element running weak on Cabela's electric smoker - why?

And that can be a faulty thermostat shutting off the heating element too soon. BTW, you should not have eaten what came out from it. The food could have stayed too long in the "danger zone" dcarch

Heating element running weak on Cabela's electric smoker - why?

An electric heating element either works or doesn't, just like a light bulb. No in between half power. Check the thermostat's function and see if it is working properly. Or you can look up the formula for watts, ohms, volts = 1,650 watts, measure the ohms with a meter, calculate at 120VAC and...

    negative pressure

Not sure why you need a blower for an electric smoker, I don't think you need a fan either in the chimney. The heat alone will help circulate the smoke up the chimney. dcarch

    negative pressure

Looks like a solenoid operated vent valve? Can be the problem if it is stuck. That blower is too powerful. No way the smoker can have the power to inject smoke. dcarch

    negative pressure

If it is a blower, it does not matter which direction the motor runs, it will still blow air, just less air if the motor runs the wrong direction. If it is a fan, it does not matter which way the fan blade is in stalled the air still will blow the same direction. direction of air flow changes...
