    Greetings / Compressor Tank Build

Looks like basically you, me and Kam are about the only ones visiting the site lately. I don't have any input to help you because I'm a newbie but I'm following your build. Good thing we have Kam here to help. I have been researching other sites as well and seen his work over there. He is an...

My first attempt at a build.

The inside is bare metal. He said he can blast the inside as well though. I figured I might as well have him do it. The CC is rusted so should I have him blast that while he is at it?

My first attempt at a build.

So I may have an issue with my fire box. I was told that the pipe I got for my fire was not galvanized and not zinc. My buddy went to cut it to the right size and said it is definetly zinc coated and it's thick. I can have it steel shot blasted (sand blasted) down to bare metal for free but I...

My first attempt at a build.

What is a good width and thickness for the flange? For the CC and the FB. At least I think it's called a flange. I'm talking about the piece that's welded to the door to cover the door seem. 1 1/2" wide by 1/8" thick? 3/16 thick? Would 3/16" thick metal be sufficient for the plenum? I'll be...

My first attempt at a build.

My original plan was to build a plenum but the guy helping me said it was a bunch of extra cuts and welding for no reason really. I switched the plan to this after he said that. is there a benifit to having the plenum?

My first attempt at a build.

I am starting out with a 40" long 19" diameter 3/8" thick CC. FB is 19" diameter 18" long a littler over 3/8" thick. 4" diameter stack that's 20" above the top of my CC. Kam59 has been helpful running my numbers and they are sufficient for air flow. I used a 4.5" grinder with a cut off wheel...

Where to cut the CC door?

Ahumadora, your smoker is actually the reason I decided to start building one. I love it. Its very clean work. I wish I had the skills to build one like that. And I love the FB door. I don't know if it matter but my CC outside diameter is 19.25" not 18.5". The inside is 18.5". Where should I...

Where to cut the CC door?

I like the idea of the drip flange. Thanks.

Where to cut the CC door?

I'm going to have questions because I'm new to building smoker. I don't know if I should start new threads when it's a totally different question of keep one thread and ask my questions in there. My CC pipe is 18.5" diameter. My opening from CC to FB is 7.25" in the shape of a football. I...

CC to FB calculations are beyond me.

Thank you both VERY much. I was beating myself up over why I couldn't figure it out. You guys laid it out there for me. I appreciate that. I should have mentioned from the beginning that I was doing a direct flow smoker. This is what I'm starting out with. I will keep you guys updated.

CC to FB calculations are beyond me.

I wasn't good at geometry and I'm obviously not good at following directions because I can't seem to figure out the calculations from the tutorial. Right now I have a 40" long piece of pipe that is 18.5" inside diameter for my cook chamber. Then I have a 19" inside diameter pipe to use as my...

    Is 5/16" steel pipe manageable?

I got a 42" piece of 5/16" steel pipe for a cc and a 24" 5/16" pipe for the fb. Both are 20" in diameter. I was thinking about cutting the cook chamber down to 36"-40" because one side of the pipe is not flush. The fire box will need to be cut as well. My question is how hard is it going to be...
