I remembered I have one of these bad boy's lying around collecting dust in my shed:

It takes 1 lb. propane canisters. I wonder if the BTU rating on that thing would be lower than that on say a turkey fryer? Anyone know how long a 1 lb...
I will for sure. I had never really looked at the ECB's until today. It looks like it would work, but as you said getting the temp low enough will be the problem. I'm going to fool around a bit though...
On a side note; I saw a chargriller duo for the first time today. HOLY CRAP! I wish...
Saw this and thought I'd pass it along. Don't know how good they are, but I've heard nice things about 'em.

I wondered about being able to keep a low enough temp. As I started looking around I see the King Kooker element is rated at 54,000 b.t.u.s. That seems like it would be a lot of heat. Obviously you could play around with the gas flow and the air/gas mixture, but that's just me thinking aloud...
Thanks for sharing that with me. I just didn't know if the ECB would be able to a) fit on the stand and b) hold up against the direct heat. I may have to look into this further!

So I was thinking...
I have a Masterbuilt 7 in 1 smoker/charcoal/propane/fryer set up that someone gave to me. I was looking to buy a turkey fryer pot for it, but found that most of them were $40-$50 on-line. I was in Wally-World the other day and found a complete King Kooker Turkey fryer set...
If there were something other than evergreens around it'd be done already! Although, I did hear the neighbor to my south yelling at his grandson for picking apples too early from the tree...hmmmmmmm.
ENABLERS! ALL OF YOU! Now I've got the shakes...it's not a habit...it's not a habit...Next thing you know I'll be driving around the neighborhoods on trash day jumping in dumpsters on the off chance I can find my next smoker fix.
Is there a patch to help settle the urge for meat smoking? I've seen them for cigarette smoking, but I'm looking for one for meat smoking. I've got about a weeks worth of leftovers and I'm already trying to plan my next smoke. In addition there is a homemade double barrel smoker on craigslist...
Thanks. Yeah, my main concern is how much would he have to do to make it a smoker he could enjoy and not get too frustrated with from the get go. I'll look around and see what I can find about them on line. I'm technically 'at work' so I thought I'd do a quick post and see what people had to...
I'm thinking about getting my pops a smoker and someone on craigslist has a brand new SNG for $25. Any thoughts/comments/places to look for info any of you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

So the shindig is finally over! Here's what happened after I threw on the chix:
Butt #1 got up to about 200 at about 4 pm. I wrapped it in a towel and put it in the cooler. Butt #2 finally hit 195 at about 5:15 pm and since the party was starting at 6 I decided to wrap it up and let it sit...
Thanks all for the kudos. I'm starting to hit the wall right now and guests show up in about 2 hrs. We'll see if I make it through the evening!
Peace

Things are going along ok. I had to leave for my little girl's soccer game, came back and the smoker temp was a bit low...200-ish. The ribs had been on for about 3.5 hrs or so and were looking a bit, shall we say, 'done' on one side. I got the ribs foiled with a bit of my spritz and a new...
