    Water Or No Water ?

No offense, but this is a blanket statement. Most off the shelf smokers aren't insulated and are built as cheaply as possible. They use cheap thermostats, regulators, thermocouples, etc, etc. The water pan is a great safety feature and should be used, unless you have the time to stand over a...

    Water Or No Water ?

And here is my opinion. Thousands of man hours go into the design of MOST of what we buy. If the manufacturer says to use it, use it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the design of some things can't be improved upon. That's how we've gotten here today. But these smokers with water pans...

    BBQ Judge

Now that I think about it, I have read that in their rules. I judged a chili cook off once and it might be the worst experience in my life. Most of it was burnt, some of it was so spicy hot, you couldn't hold it in your mouth long enough to taste it. Now I realize some of you like that kind of...

2 lbs of Q? I could do that with half my stomach tied behind my back. Me love meat. Hopefully the bad ones have a decent dipping sauce on the side.

    Homemade cookers

A welding blanket is impregnated with a fire proof chemical and has little or no insulating values. Fire resistance and R value have nothing to do with each other.

    Homemade cookers

It's a portable unit made by a company called Zena, Inc. It's a welder packed into a large GM alternator case. It's probably one of the best purchases I ever made. You can run it from any gas motor. Mine is piggy backed to the alternator on my old farm truck. You can use a small gas motor, a...

    Homemade cookers

I take SOME pride in my home-built projects. But quite frankly it's function over form with me. My pride starts when someone does the same thing I have done, but for much more than I spent. Let me know when you are ready to purchase a welder. I'll send you to the right place.

    Homemade cookers

I have been considering building a new one completely from scratch once I get the water tank finished and dialed in. I have done a ton of research on steel prices and what to buy so you don't have any scrap left over, utilizing every $ you spend. I was thinking about doing a video or picture...

srmonty, you should try the cutting edge of a Cat 950B. I stand my logs up in a row and have our loader operator tilt his bucket all the way forward right on top of them. We do 10 to 15 logs at a time like that. Otherwise my splitter is a 12 year old kid.
