Got mine recently as well. I'll put the probes to it next time. I've seen several reviews that day the temp is spot on. Did you make sure there is a 1" gap between the rec tec temp probe and the side wall? They mention that it's important a few times in the instructional video. If it's to...
Thanks guys I'll try it in the back. I got it figuring I'd typically use it on hotter cooks where the rec tec isn't putting out as much and for cold smoking. Do you guys use the xtreme smoke mode?
That's really good news. I tend to do most of my longer smokes in the middle of the winter when there isn't anything else to do. What do you think about custom fit blanket for winter smoking, worth it?
Thanks good to know. I'll cook in anything but wind (unless I've made promises I have to keep). In my stick burner days I hated the difficulty the wind added. I still don't like to smoke when its too windy because inevatibly I somehow manage to get grease stains somewhere. That and I just...
Good morning and welcome to smf!
I've had pretty good luck with maverick thermometers. I'm considering an upgrade to one of the app enabled thermostats, but I've had Mavericks for years south no trouble besides replacing probes occasionally.
I got the A-Maze-N pellet tube as an accessory to my new Rec Tec to add additional smoke when desired. I haven't found a good spot for it to operate in the grill. I think if I set it on the drip tray it will get clogged with grease. Setting on the grate doesn't seem great either. The choices...
Man as soon as the wx cooperates
Nice! we'll have to keep in touch to see how they are going. The snow left but its blowing 20-30mph so I didn't fire it up. I"m hoping I can at least cook a steak on the darn thing in the next few days. Let me know how the butt and chicken goes Thumbs Up
The bark is developing nicely. Butts that size usually take about 12 hours for me. I try to do 225 but there's always a half hour here and there where it's 250+
I decided on the rec tec. Price of a trager but much higher quality. I haven't cooked on it yet, but just comparing things like metal thickness between the trager at ace and the rec tec it's an obvious increase in stoutness. The only problem was waiting two weeks for delivery.
