It is Begun! My First Smoker Build

After doing a whole lot of research, planning, re-planning, un-re-planning, and general head-scratching, I have begun my smoker build project. Thanks to my brother in law having a number of well placed local contacts, we were able to practically steal the 1/4" plate, plasma cut to my design...

Rookie in the planning stages... Any guidance?

That thread you linked is very informative, by the way. So much for me to digest... And I for sure don't want to skip the 'sit back and ponder' phase.

Rookie in the planning stages... Any guidance?

Excellent advice, thanks very much. I do like to smoke in the winter, which is a real chore with my char-griller. So I will definitely look at doing some insulation of the FB. I really can't wait to see this concept become a reality, hopefully in a few months I'll be posting Q-view from it!

Rookie in the planning stages... Any guidance?

Good to know, thanks. Will I need to enlarge the firebox itself at all, or just the opening? Also, do I have a minimum clearance I need to keep in mind for the area under the reverse flow plate? For the door, I was planning to do a counterweight of some sort. Not sure on specifics, but I used...

Anyone have a thought? Heck, if my design sucks, tell me why and how to fix it! lol

Rookie in the planning stages... Any guidance?

Gents, I have been scouring the forums for weeks now looking for info, tips, insight, whatever I can find regarding designing my smoker. I figured I might as well post up my specs here and let you guys shoot holes in my design so I can make it bulletproof. For background, my brother-in-law...

24" backyard smoker build. Some questions...

I'm brainstorming on doing a backyard size build and this is right up my alley. If I can find a source for pipe this may end up being the winner! Thanks for sharing your progress, very nicely done.

Jack Daniels Pit Beef by SQWIB

That looks phenomenal...  The sammies, then the wraps...  Mama Mia!  I gotta go out and pick up a cut of this myself and give it a whirl.

10lbs of loin and a mess o' beans (heavy Q-View)

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, jshalaas...  I had it on for around 4 hours and change.  I foiled it for about 40 minutes before slicing.

10lbs of loin and a mess o' beans (heavy Q-View)

Thanks guys.  My pit is a Char-Griller SFB with a few mods.  The smoke was a mix of apple, cherry and hickory.  A bit eccentric I know, but I was feeling crazy!

10lbs of loin and a mess o' beans (heavy Q-View)

If anyone is interested this is the recipe I used for the Jerk.  The site has a lot of Jamaican recipes, several I plan to try.  My wife has made the curry and it is out of this world with their rice & peas. http://www.jamaicatravelandculture.com/food_and_drink/jerk_pork.htm

    Dutch's "Wicked Baked Beans"

Add me to the chorus of tose who LOVE these beans.  Had them in with 10# of pork loin for about 4 hours today and they came out incredible.  Had to forego the jalapenos for the sake of the kiddos, but I think next time I'll add in a couple just to see what I can get away with.  Thanks for the...
