welcome to the site! a little bit of advice....DONT TRUST THE THERMOMETER ON THE ECB! the one on mine was off by 50* and there are a ton of folks on here who have had the same issue. like ALX said spend a few dollars (even if its the replacement guage frome HD) it will pay off in the long...

well, thanks to all your help the first smoke on my certified preowned WSM went smoothly... i cant believe the heat control on this thing. it was a dream to use .. i almost felt dirty for not doing as much to maintain the temp. any way here is the pics of the brisket, dutchs beans and the smoked...
well, mrs goobi found a recipe for me to try.. figured if it goes on the smoker, cant be that bad.
fairly simple
slice open dates and stuff with cream cheese
wrap in bacon (or turkey bacon as the case may be)
smoke for 1.5 - 2hrs with your favorite wood (these were on for 4 hrs TOO LONG)...
thanks...so when i use it i put a lit chimney on top of a basket full of unlit then right? how long does that usually last.....i may also try the fire brick baffle like smokin dick said above
