    Help save my butt!

Thanks! I'm pretty stoked about eating this. It's my first butt, and actually the first time I've ever had or made home made pulled pork, so hopefully it goes right. That, and I invited like 10 people over to eat my success, so I hope it turns out good, lol!

    Help save my butt!

So is the plateau usually after the 160 point? I was anticipating it but panicked when started cooking that fast.

    Help save my butt!

Well I forgot to mention, this is my UDS. The thermometer has been replaced once but it only has a 1/2" probe on it, so I think it's being cooled from the outside or something. The butt looks real good and I turned down the smoker and can tell the meat is cooking slower, now at 160. I'm...

    Help save my butt!

I put my 7lb butt on the smoker this morning around 9-930. It's 12 now and I'm at 150 degrees! I think my thermometer on my smoker reads low, since it's at under 200 right now. I put an oven thermometer in there and it was reading 275 before I turned it down. I got my foil ready and I'm...

    Finally finished my UDS!

I completely forgot about this thread. I have got the drum seasoned well, and for anyone waiting to build one, I have to say; it's really the easy thing in the world to use. It had a learning curve of about 1-2 smokes, and I'm set. I but random things in there and people think I'm a pro or...

Think I'm going to smoke my first butt on Sunday...

I picked up a 9lb'er to make in my UDS. Since I built it, I've made about 4 fatties (jap and cheese, the GF loves them), and tons of plain sausage links as that's one of my favorite BBQ things. Tell me if this sounds ok. I'm going to get the butt out tonight and cover it in mustard and just...

    dogs and charcoal

Charcoal settles their stomachs. My dogs put their faces in my ash can under the Weber and blow messes everywhere.

    Finally finished my UDS!

I got some thighs on there right now, but I'm running into an issue that hopefully isn't an issue. Today, I started with about 8-9lbs of fuel, about 8 pieces of pecan, and 18 coals in the chimney, and when I open the lid, the temps drop, not rise. Is this because I'm using regular cheap...

    Finally finished my UDS!

I finished yesterday morning, and seasoned it last night. With about half a basket of charcoal, it ran a solid 230 for at least 7 hours before I went to bed. Can't wait to cook something now! Just gotta decide what.

Whats the Dumbest thing you ever did Grilling, BBQ or

Most recent was two weeks ago. I am building my UDS, so I did a burn Friday night to clean out the canola oil in it. I poored $6 bucks worth of fire wood, random two by fours, half a bag of kingsford, and every piece of cardboard I could find in my house and garage into the barrel, and set it...

    Chargriller 3" thermometer install

I know this is an old thread, but where can I find those red/white/blue thermometers? I want those kind for my UDS.

    Intakes: Single 1" Ball-valve or common 3/4 x 3 set-up?

Just found a 1" gate valve. Looks like I'll be incorporating that into my build.

    Intakes: Single 1" Ball-valve or common 3/4 x 3 set-up?

I suppose I'll just go with the 3 intakes, 1 ball/2 cap set-up. A quick look at home depot and it seems like I'll be out about $15 bucks for the intakes.

    Intakes: Single 1" Ball-valve or common 3/4 x 3 set-up?

What should I do? It would be easier to install just one intake, and I see that most people with the three piece set-up only use about 1/2 the air intake, so what's best? For those that have gone with whatever choices, would you do it differently next time?

Another drum question, who here has messed with Icynene?

Ended up finding one for $20 with a liner that had Canola Oil in it. I'll feel better about using this one and have funning setting it on fire too!

Another drum question, who here has messed with Icynene?

Yea, I'm quickly considering picking one up. Drinking out of a plastic water bottle can be harmful. Why am I worrying about something non-toxic that will be burned out...

    Weber grate on UDS

The grate will hold the weight, the supports you put on your UDS are what I'd be worried about. Aside from that, I'd take the opportunity to add an extra grate and not worry about it at all.
