The 33% number is just a guesstimate that someone made years ago and put into a formula. It isn't a hard and fast rule. Some people think it's gospel and your smoker will run like s*** if you don't follow that - nothing could be further from the truth!
I built a 60-gallon tank out with a 30...
I picked up one of these for $50 recently but I cannot get the burner to light. I have tried the tank on other smokers and my propane torch, works fine, not an issue with the safety valve-limiter on the tank. I can see the igniter sparking when I press it. And I can smell the propane when trying...

I don't know... that would get awfully heavy awfully quick - unless you're using just sheet metal, but even then, it would seriously add to the complexity of a build. Lots of guys just do an 'air gap' between the inner pipe of the firebox and the outer shell, usually like 2-3" or so. Some people...
Thanks, unfortunately it looks like they don't have any locations within 500 miles of me. Maybe I can find something similar in the Tulsa area. Gives me an idea to look into...
Actually.... there is a guy up there who does fabulous work. LV Smokers - he used to be in Las Vegas, hence the name. Might be worth looking him up, but he really does make great stuff.
You've gotten some great advice here. I have lots of cookers, I use them all the time for various different...
Overrated in my opinions. The Goldees pit is not nearly as even cooking with 'no hot spot' as they made it appear.
The new Texas Smoke King - meh. It looks fancy, has a fancy pinwheel damper, has a fancy but completely unneeded exhaust damper and the internal collectors/vents with louvers and...
Looks like an awesome job for a first pit build! Strong work, @Wet Spaniel! @seenred is a great guy and a great resource for folks as well who are trying to get started in this hobby/sidegig/whatever.
I remember picking up my first MIG gun and going to town, after watching literally dozens, if...
I have a 'Backyard Pro' brand 5-lb stuffer. I'd never heard of it, never had any occasion to really research sausage stuffers, then I won this one in a contest - and it's been off to the races with my meat curing obsession! lol
Backyard Pro Butcher Series SS-5V 5 lb. Vertical Manual Sausage...
I dunno. I am using an Oxo 'side cut' one now - just looked at my history on Amazon and it is going on 5y old. I think it gets a lot of use.
OXO Good Grips Smooth Edge Can Opener
I guess maybe some don't last - I was shocked to find I'd ordered 5 can openers on Amazon - 2014, 2015, two at...
I watched that too, the Texas Smoke King. Personally, I'm not super impressed with it, I think it's overly complicated and doesn't need to be. Those louvers and things in the collectors and vents, meh, I don't see a need for it. The exhaust damper 'set points' - another solution looking for a...
So I made a video back in the summer of me cutting a propane tank with a plasma cutter, using less water, not filling it all the way up, putting it up on end. Maybe this will help someone.
Mercaptan smell in the lawn isn't a big deal, not going to stick around in open air after being mixed in...
.199 is absolutely fine for your cook chamber - ESPECIALLY in AZ. Don't even give it another thought.
Firebox, yes you want as reasonably thick as you can find, 1/4" is the perfect balance between thickness for durability and not being ridiculously heavy - especially for a backyard pit, they...
This is an interesting concept, although a fully insulated pit for the backyard is... maybe a bit much, IMO. Easy enough to run away with temps unless you really have controlled wood/split sizes and you know what you're doing.
I've watched some videos on this, but what I haven't seen is any...
