Awesome to hear, but I think I will let someone else bring mine up to MN. I have been kicking around the idea of a new smoker and have decided on a Rec-Tec just haven't ordered yet. Hope it works well for you. It is really hard to find a bad review for them.
Yes smoking only part of the time might be a good plan until you decide how much smoke you like. Fruit woods are generally pretty mild. Hickory and mesquite are quite a bit stronger flavors just for future reference. Good luck.
Depends on what you are planning for a finished product. If you want pulled pork you will want a higher internal temp of 195-200 but it will be safe to eat at 150. At that temp it may not pull will probably have to slice some of it. Pork shoulders are pretty forgiving so you should be fine...
Not a wood splitting guy at all so this may be a really stupid question is it green and will it split better when it dries a little? The apple wood I have gotten seems to be a little easier to work with once it dries is the reason I am asking.
Got this for Father's Day this year. Did stuffed chicken breasts and twice baked potatoes awhile back and worked good. Doing some country style spares today. Going to have to stack a few to fit the taters later but that should be ok. Really like this gadget so far can rotisserie all kinds of stuff.
I use mine for grilling not smoking. I guess I haven't heard anything about not using it for smoking. I start to get very nervous when I get down to about 5 twin packs in the shed. I have about 18 now so I will probably wait till the normal Labor Day sale to stock up too much.
