Hey all, I have the MES 40 and want to do the Mailbox mod since the chip tray sucks..
Can I use a galvanized metal box or not?
Someone on here said not to but I cant imagine it gets so hot it would kill me...
Heres my Pizza fatty in my mes 40 with the amznps and mat form A-maze-n products.
Guess you cant see the pellet burner, but that's all I use since I cant get this smoker to produce a nice burning smoke.

The first two were on the exhaust side...then I moved it to the chip loader to blow air in.
Its a 12 volt fan I hook to a 2/10/25 amp car charger

Holy cow Steelcity! I think you got it. I have my little fridge fan mounted to the side exhaust thinking it would suck air in the loader side...well , common sense shoulda told me , this little fan is not strong enough to do that...so... im going to mount it to the loader side and see.

I am going to try it again this weekend and get pics. To Recap...I slide out the chip loader, moved the water pan to the floor, removed the chip tray, and put a fan on the exhaust side , blowing out as to suck the air in from the bottom chip loader , up and through the exhaust hole...

Yes , preheat it ...even if your short on time , give it a head start.
I have the MES40 with window and mine leaks thru the bottom window . Im sure its just moisture running down the sides and leaking out...you will find this is fairly common. If the new door helps...
