Interesting read, thanks for sharing. I suppose there’s no harm in running the box at full tilt, just didn’t fit my own personal style of 225 till it’s ready. I will give this a go on my next smoke
Sadly no. Somehow it got worse. I ended up setting it at 250 to maintain 225-230 on the TP08. I’m going to run a test today and see how close the actual temps are at 275
So I am smoking a 10lb bone in pork butt in the new MES40 today. My initial observations of the temp control are way better than I had anticipated. I have it set at 225, my TP08 shows 230-235. Although it is off as a baseline, 5 degree swings are nothing! Box is currently empty, I’ll check it...
The amnps was designed for the original gen 1 MES30 20070910 which had two rails on the left side as you can see in the photo. I believe you would be better off with the AMNTS in this case :/
Oh and for the record, my modified fan mod fits the MES40 :)
They do move some air, and cheap! I have only run them at full speed a couple times when the Midwest humidity was out of control. That was the only way to get the pellets burning hot enough to stay lit! Generally it runs near the lowest speed and just gives the “push” I need.
New smoker is up and running well, temp swings are manageable. Modified my blower mod to fit the new unit and it works like a champ. I have decided to use it for awhile before rewiring and adding a PID.
Well it seems there’s a lot of folks here in the electric smoker section that are big fans of the Weber charcoal/wood smokers... I have a Weber 22” premium kettle also...
Since you posted this in electric, I’ll give my opinion. I have had 3 different masterbuilt smokers over the last 5 years. They work. My most recent model is the MES 140S which is actually a gen 1.5 and combines the best of the gen 1 and gen 2 configurations. It has no Bluetooth, but does have...
Thanks for the reply! Regarding the loss of features, this model doesn’t have Bluetooth, the meat probe wasn’t a deal breaker, but I was excited about the light lol. I usually have an LED flashlight or headband for overnight smokes though. I don’t think there’s a way to get more consistent...
I recently picked up a gen 1.5 MES40 that I would love to add the WS-1510ELPM to. Before i pull the trigger on the PID, do you know if it would wire up like the GEN 1? here is the version I have https://masterbuilt.com/product/mb20072618-digital-electric-smoker
Got the third MES40 today in good condition, finally. The fan mod fits, but just barely. There is probably less than 1/8” of overall diameter difference between the baffle and the hole in the mes40. The new smoker uses a much shorter chip loader as well, so my fan mod will have to be cut down...
Sadly the second unit arrived damaged also
:(
On the upside, Walmart gave me $75 in gift cards for the hassle and then price matched Academy’s price of $249. I’m all in with 3 year warranty for right at $200 bucks. As far as the mod fitting, I think the diameter is the same but the overall...
Thanks!
The hole is unmodified. it was coincidental that the baffles removed from my motorcycle could be repurposed by breaking the spot welds on one end and reattaching the removed end to the opposite end backwards. I then mounted a variable speed usb fan with zip ties and voila.
Not sure what features you are after, but Academy has the Gen 1.5 on sale (MES 140S) for 249 Not sure why it is hyperlinking MES to amazon, I didnt create the link.
