MES Rewire Simple Guide - No Back Removal Needed!!!

Thanks everyone, I thought the tube from the mailbox had to taped to the smoker to keep from leaking. If I can remove it every time that would be great! I really like the setup @chopsaw has. I think I'll try to do it that way.

MES Rewire Simple Guide - No Back Removal Needed!!!

Actually, I wonder if something like this might work after the mailbox mod?

MES Rewire Simple Guide - No Back Removal Needed!!!

I'm kinda bummed though. I just got a great cover for the MES last year. Heavy duty, easy on and off. When I put the mailbox mod on though I won't be able to use it. Any ideas?

MES Rewire Simple Guide - No Back Removal Needed!!!

Ok, thank you very much @tallbm I did the rewire and tested that the element was heating up. It did (a little slower than I thought it would, but it did). My wiring was different but I figured it out (see pics). Now I'll order the Auber!!

MES Rewire Simple Guide - No Back Removal Needed!!!

Ok thanks. It looks like Auber does have a return policy, but I will obviously lose the shipping money I spend ($12.70 for me) and have to pay for shipping back (probably the same) and a 10% restocking fee if it gets used (which it would have to). So that sucks ($50 lost). But I will do the...

MES Rewire Simple Guide - No Back Removal Needed!!!

Thanks, definitely good info. I'm planning on the 2 probes, and definitely the free hanging one. One thing I am worried about now, and I just thought of it, but what if my MES heating element is bad, and that's actually the culprit; not the controller?? I need to see if Auber has a return...

MES Rewire Simple Guide - No Back Removal Needed!!!

This is perfect, exactly the info and advice I needed, thank you. I'll keep you posted as to how it goes. I do like the Wi-Fi idea, but depending on the price adder I may not have the funds now to do that. Wife is not happy the MES is dead, and that we have to pay any money at all to get...

MES Rewire Simple Guide - No Back Removal Needed!!!

Ok, I know I'm being a bit of a pain in the a**, but reading through these threads is making me more confused. I'm pretty comfortable with technical details, and I work in the electronics industry (I'm not an Engineer however) so I get the concepts for the most part. Please let me know if I...

    Is this a good deal??

LOL! I have a feeling I will come over to the PID side. I waited too long and they got sold. Must be a sign.

    Is this a good deal??

My MES is down right now. Controller stopped working so I guess I need to do the Auber mod thing. But just saw these and thought a different way of smoking might be cool.

    Is this a good deal??

It's a wood smoker, right? Like wood chunks? Sorry, I've been an electric wood chip smoker from the beginning, but willing to expand my horizons now that my MES is on the fritz.

    Is this a good deal??

Found on Marketplace, $50 each. I'm not familiar with either brand, been using MES40 for years. Thanks.

    My second run at sourdough

Wife just started her sourdough journey a couple months ago. She's had great success with it. Baking a jalepno cheddar loaf today as a matter of fact. Keep it up, it seems to be a fun (and tasty) hobby! Nice work!

Adding Temp Control to old MES40 - Question

I'm pretty convinced that I want to mod my MES40 instead of getting a whole new rig. My controllerand/or heating element has gone out so I'm investigating options. For the controller, INSTEAD of a traditional PID setup, could I use this from Inkbird...
