So I have searched the forum but cant find a post about someone using one of these.
Does anybody have any experience using a metal cutting blade that goes on a regular circular saw to cut tanks?- I looked at a Freud Diablo Metal Demon blade that I can afford, says it will cut up to 1/4".
My...
Wow how did I miss that? I am sure the first mini I saw must have been Smokin Steve's!. So now that I have seen better pics of his build I am glad I have not welded the top plate to my firebox. I will get a longer piece of steel for the top to make the reverse plate in one piece.
Two questions...
This little Lincoln should get me through my scuba tank build for now. I have been in the welding shop numerous times looking at the Miller 140 and 180 MIG. I just couldn't convince myself to "pull the trigger" on a new welder yet.
Just picked up a Lincoln Weld Pak 100 MIG for $50. I know it will probably be ok for 1/8" door flanges but will it be enough welder to weld critical parts like legs and firebox onto my 60 gallon 3/16" tank? And what would be my best chance as far as setup- wire size etc. I do have a gas bottle...
Guess I need a better picture, if you look closely at the tank there are two dry rotted 3x3's mounted on the ends of the legs that sit about 6" away from the tank. I have two ideas for the "style" of wood base.
1. Japanese style -look up a Shinto gate or a ( Torii Gate ) using mortise and...
Is it a crazy idea to use a wooden structure to support my 60 gal. offset build? Has anybody ever seen or done this? I already have three 4"x4" x8' pressure treated and some steel T-plates to bolt it. If you look at the pic it would be easy to replace the bottom runners on my tank and build off...
Thanks again Dave!, I got 2.186" (2-3/16") using your formula, wondering though if the dynamics change on something this small, should I think about some 1/2" tuning plates?. Not sure at this point if I will actually go reverse flow, just not a lot of room in there. I did offset the door to...
Hi all, I am hung up doing the opening between the firebox and the cooking chamber . Aside from trying to draw straight lines on a curved surface I need to cut the opening in the tank and the firebox and want to make this tiny thing to actually cook.
1. The cook chamber is 21" x 6.750" I.D...
Mule, not sure if it's called a beehive spring but it's a spring handle that is fat on one end and skinny on the other. I should have some more pics up today or tomorrow after I get the notch cut in the tank for the tank to firebox opening. I also received my tricycle wheels from Radio Flyer so...
Got to borrow a friends welder today (220 MIG) and got half the firebox done. Just as I was starting to make some nice beads it ran out of wire. I should be able to finish the firebox and get it welded to the cook chamber/Scuba Tank next week. I am still looking for a small stainless beehive...
Dave thanks!,
would you agree I need to cut out the baffle in the firebox? I just took another look out the outlet pipe. It is actually an oval shape where it is welded to the firebox, so if I cut the outside end at a matching angle it will probably help, but it will be tight trying to...
The Feldons pit calculator says I am 10% too small on the firebox and a little small on the firebox to cook chamber opening -is that going to be a big problem?
Dave, the air tank build was how I found this forum. The two mini builds I have seen are BBQDad and Huntington County Customs. Not sure if they are same person but I had found a video on Youtube when I was researching mini smokers. I could not afford a nice offset and there are none to be found...
