Trouble with my Char Broil Kettleman

Thanks again Chris! Yeah, when the new grate arrives. I'm going to clean the inside and re-tighten the legs. But I also think I'll try and figure out some bracing for the lower legs as well. I'll post what I come up with. Appreciate your input!

Trouble with my Char Broil Kettleman

Thanks Warren! I have in the past and they did send me a replacement set at no cost. Was sturdy for a little bit but is starting to wobble again. I think it is just a poor design. Should have female metal posts, welded to the outside of the grill that the legs go into and then tighten it all...

Trouble with my Char Broil Kettleman

When I get my new grate, I'll clean out the inside and try to tighten them down again but am thinking I might add some steel plates to the outside connection. Thoughts?

Trouble with my Char Broil Kettleman

Hi Chris, I found the schematics from the manual which give a better visual than my grill currently put together. But I do include one pic from my grill to show that the indent shown on the instructions diagram is not that indented at all. Thanks, G

Trouble with my Char Broil Kettleman

Hey again Chris and thanks. Yeah, I'll go shoot a couple pics to give you an idea of what I'm looking at. Most likely am going to have to drill holes in the legs and use wire but will be open to any ideas you might have. I'll do that here in a few. Thanks!

Trouble with my Char Broil Kettleman

Three years ago I bought a Char Broil Kettleman (charcoal grill). I have smoked on it before but generally like to use charcoal when doing steaks as I can get ridiculously high heats on it. I also LOVE the grill grate design. For those of you not familiar with it, there is a great write...

    Pit Boss 820

Hmmmm, that's news to me. I must have missed that in the manual. To be honest, when I noticed the temp drop to about 160, I got up and turned the temp up to initiate the feed of more pellets. Then once it relit, reset my temp. But I'll definitely test the 140 re-lite feature to see if it does in...

    Pit Boss 820

Hey Locolagarto and congrats on your upgrade. Yeah, without the heatshield, I think all bets are off as that is an integral part of heat distribution. I have the same PID controller and can keep temps within 5 to 10 degrees on shorter and regular cooks. 2 to 5 or 6 hours. On longer cooks, I've...

    Pit Boss 820

Hey Cleric, I did a quick look to see how to PM you and didn't find it so I'm dropping this here... :) I switched out to a PID controller shortly after I got my PB700 so it is in pristine condition. I ~think~ the 700 and 820 use the same controller but you might want to double check that. If...

Now I'm able to see the pics and WOW, that is a mountain of meat! Looks great man. Nice job!

    Pit Boss 820

Hey Mega Brisket, If I warmed up the PB 700 per the instructions, it would behave for a while but then would start up with some crazy spikes again. Again on short cooks, it would be alright but I learned the hard way on a brisket that the spikes returned. I still love my pellet grill and love...

Hey Speed J, would love to see what you cooked up but the pictures are not showing. Based on the stall comment, I'm imagining an awesome brisket!

    Brisket stall

Sorry if I missed the size of brisket...are you smoking just the flat or a whole packer brisket? The flat will obviously take a lot less time. Also, if you're smoking a packer brisket on that offset, might be a good idea to have the point end towards the firebox instead of the flat. Good luck...

Butts and Prime Brisket @ Sam's - Plano, TX

Funny, I was just talking about smoking a Tri tip tomorrow and asked my wife to pickup one from Sam's Club today. Her 1st question, "What's a good price per pound for that?" Good question! But to answer yours...I can usually catch a Pork Butt/Shoulder on sale at $0.99/lb, every other month or...

    Pit-Boss 820D: Temperature Controller

Looks like some great info/data here. Is there any chance you can reupload the chart so it is bigger. I'm having a time reading the small print. Appreciate you sharing this research!

Pellet Smoker Grate Temp vs. Set Temp

Hi John and welcome to the forum! Appreciate you adding your thoughts to my post! That's what makes this forum great. People exchanging experience with people. :) Good thought and yeah, I don't want to get too caught up in grate temp vs set temp. I understand what you're saying but the probe is...

My New PID Controller - 1st Cook

Np Bill. And at first I kind of felt the same way but like you said, pricewise it is a good pellet grill as compared to the much more expensive options. I like that Pit Boss has made an otherwise quality product but think they are missing out on easy money not offering their own PID controller...
