    Favorite Movies Thread...

Yep. It was. And I knew it was time to leave the Navy when I realized I was bored flying 360 knots 5 feet above the straight road down the center of the Panamint Valley on my way to China Lake targets. That instant is burned in my memory as the moment I'd become complacent pushing the edge of...

The Great Santini. The movie was okay. Loved the novel. I read it in Kingsville, TX when I was a basic jet flight instructor. There was a quote in the book that was not included on film. Santini's wife was explaining to their son why Santini's classmate became a general and Santini was still a...

    Fish Soup

Great looking soup, Brian. Hope the swelling likes it enough to stop bothering you. Get well.

$20/lb for Select grade Prime Rib? Nope.

Ahhh. I should have kept shopping. The three below were 2", 2.5", and 3" thick.

$20/lb for Select grade Prime Rib? Nope.

Update: Picked up a 9 lb Select grade prime rib today for $8.98/lb. A bit more than I wanted to pay, but still doable, and not $20/lb. Choice was $9.98/lb and didn't appear that different from Select.

    Christmas score?

A carbon steel wok, and three long-tail bamboo viscose t-shirts (like wearing nothing they are so soft). Kevin, I'm an orphan. Adopt me.

    I smoked a Tri-tip like a prime rib

Glad to hear your wife is better. That's the best Christmas present.

No more Sweet Baby Ray's for me!

My head's been piecing together a recipe all day. Cider reduction, caramelized onions and apples, and bacon are finding their way into the spices, ACV, bourbon, tomato base, and blender. Still debating raw honey and/or molasses.

    Whats everyone's Christmas meal plans?

I grew up in a Calabrian household where Christmas Eve was the Feast of the Seven fishes. Then I married a Texan who severely dislikes fish. Christmas Eve became the Feast of One Fish My Wife Will Eat. Today was crab cakes. Tomorrow is Mexican food, another of her traditions.

$20/lb for Select grade Prime Rib? Nope.

I paid $5.98/lb the other day for cubed steaks. CUBED STEAKS! The prices for beef are out of control around here. Packers run mid $4/lb for Choice or better. Compared to the east coast...yeah. Price is $5.98/lb regularly for Choice (untrimmed), $3.98/lb on sale. I will see a rare sale of...

That's an accurate statement in my neck of the woods. Ahhh. I can only dream. I will miss tthose steaks.

$20/lb for Select grade Prime Rib? Nope.

Every year around Christmas I buy a 3 to 5 bone Select grade prime rib. I slice it into Cowboy steaks, vac-seal each one, and throw them in the freezer. My wife and I get two meals off each steak. The price has varied from $6/lb (3‐4 yrs ago) to $9/lb last year. This year. The lowest I've seen...

No more Sweet Baby Ray's for me!

Great point, Cliff. Hmmm. I might have to use vinegar and whiskey in the ingredients as preservatives.

No more Sweet Baby Ray's for me!

I just used the last of my SBR's this past week, and decided I need to find a way to make my own. I've tried several recipes over the years and was never happy. Not a fan of ANY of the artificial sweeteners. Reading this thread I had a thought of reducing fresh apple cider as the sweetener for a...

In 67 years I have never seen a year like this where I live.

I'll drink to that. Nowadays, EVERYTHING is competing for one's attention. My cable box died this week. Been watching YouTube and Netflix only on my Roku and been perfectly happy. I think I'm about to save a bunch of money.

Easy, Rich, Decadent, Bittersweet Chocolate Pudding

Thanks, Chris. Can one smell/taste the espresso? Nope. Proof? My super-taster wife HATES the taste of coffee and won't drink anything that tastes of coffee...and she LOVED this pudding. The espresso powder is like a horsepower chocolate flavor enhancer. My wife is going to make her family...

Easy, Rich, Decadent, Bittersweet Chocolate Pudding

Thanks, Keith. If you make it, let us know what you think. The pudding put me on an experimental train in the last week. Made ham salad earlier, which is something I haven't had since I was a kid. Also made Gluhwein, a German mulled red wine. Still dialing in that recipe but the first attempt...

Easy, Rich, Decadent, Bittersweet Chocolate Pudding

YEP! I'm gonna cut the cornstarch to 1 Tbs or less (2 tsp) and add some ancho chili powder and Ceylon cinnamon. My wife is not a fan of Cayenne but some might get sprinkled into my cup.
