I have one 120 gallon tank awaiting a suitable project that was next to a house that burned. It got hot enough to vent the tank and scorch the side of the tank and it has a drizzled frosting of melted asphalt from the roof shingles but is otherwise OK. As I have four other tanks I may just...
Hello. Nate
I hope this helps and that it doesn't come across like Charlie Brown's teacher's "Wah,wah, wah!".
As a general rule, the few weeks around Christmas and the New Year are the best time of year to stock up on rib roasts as pretty much every store chain except Walmart will offer them...
Ahh. I have the Multimatic 255 and really like it but still want to be better at outside corners in 1/4" plate before I'm comfortable tackling long joints as visible as the firebox and cook chamber end plates. When you have a few minutes I'd be grateful for some insight into your parameters and...
Good morning, Chad and welcome from North Carolina.
That's some nice work you've done there. Is that a Millermatic 255 in the background? And is that what you welded this with?
Thanks. Interestingly, it wouldn't show up in Firefox (my default browser) but did in Microsoft Edge off to the right edge of the item display. The first link on Inkbird's original post only takes me to page of nothing but shopping suggestions based on past purchases.
I don't know what is happening but I tried two different browsers (Firefox and Chrome) and neither one shows a 30% discount coupon or anything like one. I guess I'll wait and see what happens next business week......
That's some really nice looking work on a good looking smoker. I'm a little concerned though that you might need a few more rolls of wire. Looking at those stacks of wire in the picture of the in-progress grate make me think you are going to run out before the project is through
Oh, and you...
Billman, your location isn't listed and I'm in North Carolina, USA so this may or may not help you.
For what it's worth, the technique is often called freezing to a "frost crust" and is often used for any thin slicing job whether by machine or by hand.
The Hobart 1712 Rexster mentioned is a...
That was just a semi-educated guess but the 120 gallon tank surely falls into the "short and fat" category and likely would work well with a smaller opening than the calculator would indicate so perhaps a private message to Dave Omak would get some info as to whether the opening should be...
Good morning, titch and welcome from North Carolina. Where are you at?
As I understand things the size of the firebox to cook chamber opening generated through the calculator is a minimum size recommendation. I'm unaware of a larger opening causing issues but the lower exit velocity may be an...
JC, when welding two parts of differering thicknesses put moost of the heat on the thicker member. In the case of 1/8" wall tube to plate I'd likely have 3/4" of the heat on the plate and just be looking for the edge of the weld puddle to wash onto the tube.
As far as a guide for the corner...
Looking good so far! I don't want to have to muscle that firebox around though....
You might want to build a jig to make welding all those outside seams easier. I plan to make something similar to the one in the thread linked below but long enough to span the longest side of the firebox as I...
