The home boss had a knee replacement about 3 years ago, and she is doing fine.
Judy seems pretty petite, so maybe you could push her in the basket at Sam's or Costco so she doesn't get tired.

IF you have a restaurant supply store nearby, you might consider visiting and browsing. Some of the best folks I know use commercial tools of the trade, and they were not terribly expensive. Long lasting, tough as my ex-wife's heart, and worth the price.

Generally, I would agree that the cut may be worth looking at, but potentially might be less of a problem than you might expect. The cut is only 4 - 5" and might not be a big deal. Duct tape may seal it up fine and last at least one season before having to be replaced.
