    Freezing Fog is interesting..

Not for me! I grew up in northern Indiana and once I joined the Army every duty station was in the cold area. One more reason I love Oklahoma. We do get snow sometimes but not alot compared to other places

A pellet smoker that actually smokes meat??

A stick burner and a Pellet smoker are two different animals. The best IMHO is the stick burner as far as taste and smoke flavor. Now I do have a Pellet smoker, PitBoss 700FB and I do like it as far as a set and forget system. I use the pellet during the winter and my stick burner during warm...

    Third tri tip attempt

I agree with Steve H. I love TT cooked in my Weber charcoal grill with wood chips for the smoke flavor plus it cooks faster with just the right amount of smoke for the flavor.

Where do you guys get your wood chunks from?

The local Ace Hardware store by me carries a lot of wood chucks and has a ton of different woods for smoking and since I use it for my electric the bags are just the right size. If I am using my stick burner I have a local guy that will sell me a rick of what every wood I want.

The big cinder block pits I have seen, Some used sand some did not. I asked one of the pit guys if the sand was used to keep heat. He said, He used it to retain heat and also to keep it more stable. But he also said to "preheat" the pit to get any moisture out but he also said that will happen...
