Looking forward to hearing about your first experiences with it!

Cherry wood, I am beginning to think never again...

I am updating my experience/opinion of Cherry wood.  My only prior experience was with "Cowboy" brand chips in my GOSM.  I recently bought a bag of "Lumber Jack" 100% Cherry pellets.  Although I can't say it is my favorite wood, I smoked potatoes and onions for 3 hours (on smoke setting) and...

Traeger frame splitting where leg inserts

I went to fire up the smoker today and noticed on the frame where the leg inserts into the frame, the outside corner has a hairline split.  I am always careful to take the weight of the front legs when I go over the garage/driveway expansion joint.  I was never thrilled with four standalone legs...

    Buying a new Pellet smoker/Grill

I don't have any personal experience with these smokers but those that have Yoders seem to be very satisfied with them. As to searing, I don't know any pellet smoker that is going to get you real searing - most top out around 400-480 degrees.  My Traeger does great for low and slow and higher...

High heat insulation for smoker door

If you are looking for an easy low budget solution, a number of folks have wrapped part of their smoker with welding blankets.  If your door has a sizable gap between the door edge and door frame, you can reduce the heat loss by either installing fiberglass rope gasket or high temp RTV silicone...

The Meat Machine charcoal smoker? *updated with pics*

Never heard of the name or brand.  Can you post a few pics of it?  It may be that a better known manufacturer made the smoker and "Leisure living products" put their label on it.  If that is the case, I'm sure someone on this forum would be able to identify it with a few pictures.

I think I know BBQ... Why yes maybe I do..

jleetw1, I watched several of your youtube videos regarding smokers.  The damages are obvious and I can't speak to those.  Some of your comments on the videos lead me to believe you may have unrealistic expectations.  The majority of smokers are not insulated, certainly not in the <$500 range. ...

    first time

I hot smoke salmon at 180 to 200 degress.  I usually have fillets about 2.5 to 3.5 pounds.  It normally takes 2 to 2.5 hours.  for a 1/2 pounder, I assume it would be less time.

    Smoked pickles

I said that about pickled eggs, fried green tomatoes, kimchi, and few other weird items but sometimes the odd is pretty good.  when I was a kid, my mom would make corn bread and white kidney bean soup and me and my siblings hated the soup - now, the soup alone is mighty tasty!  I'll try most...

    traegar on craigslist

Looks like a Junior with 3 temp control - although pretty basic, for $150, if the mechanics are sound, that is a pretty good deal, especially if you can chisel the price down a bit.  I paid near $1k for a slightly larger model new (Texas 075) with more temp ranges on the control.  If that works...
