What are you listening to ?

Wide variety of music choice here and that is good. Would be interesting to see what age group relates to what kind of music. I am over 80, born and raised with country music and square dancing.

What are you listening to ?

I must be the odd ball of the bunch as I stay close to the old country. Willies Roadhouse on Sirius in the house on tv or in either vehicle. Loretta Lynn brought the house down with her rendition of the National Anthem at the Super Bowl last Sunday. The half time show sucked from the start...

Who cuts their own wood? How to organize?

I only keep the apple. Do the sawing on a trap and use the saw chips with the smaller limbs cut into 1" rings for the smoking. One old apple tree will provide many years of smoking for two people. Saw chips are kept in a burlap bag along with the blocks in a 55gal steel barrel with lid.

    Assembled the new smoker

Plan to dig the old Brinkman out from under the covers and do some chicken for supper today. Hasn't seen the light for day since November.

That is a true working man's meal; red meat, taters, topped with a pair of hen fruit. Quick, easy and super good eating.

    Black stone Pellet/Griddle Combo

With the just two of us I have never thought of any need for a bigger equipment. Have a 30" pellet smoker/grill and lot of cast iron fry pans and griddles in the collection to choose from. Couple Iowa Chops going on the grill for a smoke then reverse sear this evening. Very interesting...

    Wood Storage Ideas

Plastic tote, drill some 1/4" holes in the side for ventilation. Hot glue screen wire over the holes on the inside to keep the critters out.

    Wing Time

Sliced up a nice little 4 lb. beef roast for jerky. Seasoned with Cookie's Flavor Enhancer and put it on two trays in the dehumidifier. Now need to clean the pellet grill up for Iowa Chops this evening. Hasn't been used since last November.

Mushroom Bacon Cheese Burger For Dinner

You have a great choice of refreshment in the light blue can. I love those burgers. Granddaughter works in a small cafe across the street from her house that make BIG mushroom bacon cheeseburgers. I use Cookie's sauces almost exclusively. www.cookiesbbq.com/products

Favorite widely available bourbon or whiskey

This was originally made in the small town of Templeton, Iowa about 65 miles North of me. When demand overrode their production capacity they sold out to a distiller in Ill. Got into trouble as the label still said Made in Iowa. Got that ironed out and went national with the product. Mighty...

My view from my new cooking spot

Congrats on your new place. I did the same thing only 24 years ago. No loud mufflers or stereos, No balls bouncing off the house wall, no neighbors for 1.25 miles and can't see them in the summer. Rock road in one way and dirt the other and neither go anyplace except to the main hard surface...

Pork butt overnight on Pit Boss 820 XL - only 153 deg after 10 hours at 200 F. Should I be concerned that it was <140F for hours?

Side note for us Northern cookers, pick up a welding blanket at HF Tools and throw that over your grill when cooking or smoking. Makes a BIG difference on holding the heat in and at a steady temp.

    New Member, New to Smoking

Have done a lot of grilling over the years but hardly any smoking. Got a new pallet smoker/grill a year ago and have done a few smaller items like wings, legs, Et. Have a decent start on a cast iron cookware collection and use cast iron for cooking quite often. Will be doing a lot of reading...
