Hey Slim,
I have a purist friend who puts some very tight restraints on what a true burbon is. He says, it must be made in Ky., at least 51% corn, aged in oak and one other that I can't remember. All the ones I've read here seem to be pretty good ..... some outstanding but George ****el in...
Great looking spread Alex!! I agree with some of the other posts ..... that's a professional job in every respect. And I also agree that it's a great feeling to be able to do something like that for others ... especially your brother. I'm sure everyone there had a great time and had plenty of...
The water pan issue is one of considerable discussion. Seems pretty much to be a matter of personal preference. Some people don't use the water pan, some use it filled with sand and some use it with water in it and others use it with beer, fruit juice etc. in it. Whatever you decide, you might...
This is very interesting. I grew up in the country but have never heard of the Hen of the woods. What is it's range? Does it grow in the Carolinas, Georgia and North Florida area? Thanks for the post.
Soflquer has a great pulled pork finishing sauce in the sauce section. It has been made a stickie and rightly so imho. Give it a try. I'm certain it will make your Q taste just like you want it to. It's the best I have tried.
That sauce sounds great Rivet! I've copied it into my recipe file. Thanks. Also, to the main thread, I usually eat mine bare but this sauce sounds so interesting, I'm going to give it a try.
Thanks for the post Farmdude. It is certainly true that peace is not free. We have so very much to be thankful for and unfortunately, I seem to often take it for granted. Happy Independence Day and happy birthday America!!
BBQ RULES
Entering the BBQ season it is important to refresh your memory on the etiquette of this outdoor cooking activity. When a man volunteers to do the BBQ the following chain of events are put into motion:Rule number:
(1) The woman buys the food.(2) The woman makes the salad, prepares the...
I've used wild cherry and fruit type cherry and of course, it's very good. If I were you, I wouldn't be afraid to use it. I'd bet it will be great. Good luck.
Oak is great for smoking! As you probably know there are a lot of different kinds of oak ..... including red oak. And all of them are great for smoking. In my opinion the oak is not quite as strong as hickory. Like you I usually use hickory but there are certainly lots of other woods to use. Enjoy!
Welcome aboard Mark!
We're glad you are here and look forward to lots of posts and pictures. I also like pecan and cherry but I am also guilty of using a lot of hickory (like what I grew up on). Again, Welcome!
Welcome to the SMF! We're glad you found us. I agree with the previous post ..... natural lump with wood chunks works best for me. Hotter and less ash. But as has already been said, it's what works best for you that counts. You might want to give the lump charcoal a test run to see what you think.
Welcome to the SMF! I'm sure your husband will enjoy the smoker. The WSM is and excellent smoker for the beginner but also for the advanced. I've seen a lot of them at competitions. You definitely did good!
I usually make the sauce per the recipe and use it on one pulled pork butt. The butt is in the 7 to 8 lb. range. Therefore, I'd double the recipe for the two butts.
