Since Sunday is my birthday the original plan was a brisket but not having much luck finding one around here for last than 10 bucks a pound. Plan now is either a couple of dry aged ribeyes or a rib roast depending on what I find at the ranch store tomorrow
Not sure but I think Danson made the prototypes. Not sure why the switched manufacturers. I will say my pg500 is the best unit I have ever had.
Fast eddy hangs out on pellet heads so you may get him to tell you more
Go to his house with a couple of steaks. Reverse sear them, smoke for an hour then crank the temp up to 500+ and sear them.
If the unit passes this test you are good to go.
Make him buy the steak and you bring the beer :)
Every time I cook on my pg500 I tell the wife how glad I made the...
I have a Cookshack fast eddy PG500. Higher than your budget but it is hands down the best grill that I have ever owned, and can smoke with the best of them.
There are several units out there that are great smokers and are decent grills, but IMHO you won't get a better 2 in 1 unit than the...
I have a heavy cover from Amazon for my PG500. I cook year around here in Denver rain or shine. Only issues I have are
1) don't open the hopper when there is precipitation, so try to make sure to keep it full when the weather is good.
2) I have a faulty outdoor outlet that trips the gfi in...
Wtf. I thought denver was a beef town. Been calling around all day looking for a brisket to cook for my birthday this weekend. Only 2 places so far with packers and the cheapest is 9.98 a pound. Guess I will just pay 20 bucks a pound for some nice dry aged ribeyes at this rate. I just...
You should verify the grill temp with a trusted (and confirmed) thermometer with the probe placed as close to the rec technology sensor as you can.
It sounds like you are cooking at a lower temp than your controller is set for.
I keep hearing this is doable here in CO. Just couldn't pay the freight to fly them in, so may have to head to the hills with a few traps and see what I can find.
I have some zatarain's pro boil in the cabinet from last year so might as well give it a try.
And 2 lbs would just piss my taste...
New place here in Denver just opened with an Ole Hickory Pit. Gas fired stick burner. Food was great and the cook took me in back to look at the pit, and it was impressive. No clue on the price but might be worth looking at.
I got my pg500 from herehttp://rockymountainstove.com/pellet-grills-smokers.aspx though not seeing them on the site right now. The were good to work with. I figured out what I wanted, and they were the only one in the area with then. I was planning on ordering it online but wanted to see it...
That is at on the grill above the flame in zone 1. The 600 is at the temp sensor in the middle back of the grill. My IR therm at 700. The pelletheads review topped out above 900 but don't remember exactly where above 900
Hopefully your smoker is not next to your house. Sorry to get on my soapbox, but just because a pellet smoker or any other kind is set and forget it, you are still dealing with fire (or in the case of an electric a heat source) and a box with grease hidden in every crook and corner. to leave...
Denver metro has had some rain or snow all but 2 days this month. Every thing is really green around here but I am ready for it to dry out. Guess the good thing is I still need to fix some yard sprinklers but it has been to Damn wet to dig them up. Enjoying a lull to do some bone in ribeyes now
We put doggie gates up and keep him fairly calm. Though we did have to take him out on a leash and he couldn't go out with the older dog. After the all clear we took him to the dog park and he ran for a solid hour without slowing down
