D Joe, thanks for the heads up on the pipes. Did you get a good rationale as to why not use two? I going to post the question on the thread with my build too, but would like to hear what made you change your mind.
I'm waiting on warmer weather to get back to my project too, and it doesn't...
How have the double exhaust pipes worked out for you? I was at an auto parts store today checking out 4" straight exhaust pipe, thinking about going double as well. Trying to get a place local that will bend them for me tomorrow before I buy.
Ok, I am not a patient person I guess. I started on a spreadsheet of my own. I am going to finesse the format a little bit and start its own thread, I will put link back here when I do. I want to put together a list like the one below with averages for weight, length and width of cuts of meat...
Ron, I was looking for a capacity calculator too and didn't see one so I'll add my name to yours on the list of people looking for it . I am trying to decide on 3 or 4 racks on my 200 gallon build, each rack should end up being around 45"x24" on mine. I see some event planning spreadsheets...
Heavy D, when you put the cubes back in did they go on the grate or in a foil pan? Also, how long did you leave the cubes in and at what temp? That pic looks awesome.
I'm really starting to hate this website. I can't check in on a thread update without seeing another one that I want build!! Now I have to do one of these too. Its # 3 on the list now.
You should be able to line the sides with firebrick to insulate it if you wanted to get the temps up...
If you are looking to keep it electric, Dave's idea seems like the way to go. I hope you find something that works for you, this idea is too good not to keep trying.
FYI, I'm not letting the fact that I have never welded anything get in the way of trying to build a rig! I bought the Harbor...
What about the idea someone earlier on the thread brought up about using steel mesh against the back wall? You would need to come up with a way that you can drop briquettes down into it.
I am so going to build one of these, I have to finish the reverse flow I started first but this is...
Looks great, good luck with your maiden voyage. I'm interested in paint options too. I still have a ways to go before I paint mine though. I'll check back.
Sounds good, I will try the round stock. I am picking up the rest of the steel for my frame and racks this AM. I had hoped to weld the firebox and hinges on this weekend. Then cut the doors. The high is only 28 tomorrow, so not too sure if I will get to it. Oh ya, I have never laid a weld in...
Tucsonboy, have you used this setup yet? I'd like to know how it worked. I have almost unlimited access to 30 and 55 gallon food grade drums from work. Thinking of adding one of these to my trailer design.
Welcome aboard, I'm new around here too. I have been working with a Bradley 6 rack for about 8 years and saw the same thing with chicken skin as you. I essentially gave up trying to use it on chicken. The guys above hit the highlights, one more idea you can try as well.
I have spent the...
I'd say you have it just right. Using the tank calculator for a horizontal capsule on http://www.calculatorsoup.com/calculators/construction/tank.php I am showing your tank volume around 350 gallons, or 80850 cubic inches. Using Dave's 0.33 X tank volume you end up with a target of 26,681...
Couple ?s:
1. Any ideas on the upper air inlets asked above?
2. I cut the fb/cc openings, looks like there will be a gap when I weld them together due to the indent on the oil tank. Any ideas on how to fill them?
