I'm hoping to do some ribs next weekend. The weather is getting warmer and my new oven smoker is almost ready to use. I'm going to use my unused Weber kettle as my "mailbox". My tube smoker puts out a lot of smoke so making some dust to try.
All most done. It is still very cold outside so I may have to wait for a bit to use it. I haven't built the control box for the PID but I still can use the smoker without using the PID.
I almost built the same oven by Rado. They are well designed. https://www.traditionaloven.com is one of the best sites for building pizza ovens. What did you do on the outside?
The exterior work was my least favourite.
Nice oven! I also use an IR thermometer. The thermocouples could be connected to a PID and solenoid to control the gas and temperature.
I'm replacing the fascia this summer.
That's a nice burner, and the price is fantastic. I went with the same idea.
I wanted to rough-in for a future gas burner when I was building the oven but was talked out of it - it wouldn't be traditional, I was told. Having thermocouples in the floor and roof would be nice. I would...
My wood-burning pizza oven is fantastic. It is very efficient, holds heat exceptionally well, etc. I love it but it can be a pain. Finding good wood is hard and it is expensive. Tending the fire is fun but sometimes I don't have the time. I'm going to add a gas burner and wonder if anyone...
I re-run the gas lines and moved the controls to the front panel. The firebox is complete, I just need to seal it up. I decided to build a butcher block top using some scrape material for some job sites.
Trial fitting the valves, gas line, and thermocouple. The grill came with only one spark ignitor so I added two more for each burner. The spark will come from the oven's spark control module. I'm trying to recycle as much as I can.
I cut the chamber down and it fits well. There is a two-inch gap between the front of the chamber and the front of the stove where I will add the tube smoker. The valves will have a bump guard and hinged lid to cover and protect them.
I started building a cooker based on a gas BBQ. I want to add a safety gas valve and a pilot light and was looking for a donor oven. I have read about a few other oven conversions and it got me thinking. I'm going to combine the parts.
The gas valves, burners, and cook box will fit under...
I know, sometimes too much information is distracting. Bad meals can be cooked in expensive pellet grills, and perfection can be done in the cheapest pellet grill. Figuring out what we need and the features that we will use can be the hardest part.
I have a Yoder 480 and I like it. It cooks very well and my grandkids will get it. Get the two pc heat shield for much easier cleanups. Everything is heavy with the Yoder which I believe helps regulate the heat well.
I want to build a smoker that I can use when it is quite cold outside. I have an extra Weber NG grill that will be cut down as the heat source. I'm thinking of using 2 1/2" steel studs as the frame, insulated with Roxul, and 18 ga ss for the shell. I have all the materials on hand. I have a...
It is funny how some of the things that attracted me to Yoder can also be a pain. I guess one of the most important things about a pellet grill is to clean the ignitor and firepot after every cook. The Yoder is easy to take apart to clean but the parts are heavy. Sometimes I think how nice an...
You could build block walls with the sides set to the width of the inside of the frame. The blocks could be dry fit with cement poured into some of the voids for strength. The grill would drop in with ledges sitting on the blocks where they normally would sit in the frame. The basic structure...
