another hobby... my wife will be thrilled
get a good (burr) grinder and buy a pound of fresh whole bean coffee (not (NOT!!) from the grocery store) and grind brew some (I prefer a good esspresso machine or french press), and you will begin to understand what the difference can be. I've never had any that was truly fresh roasted, but...
so how much is the convection thingie on the top? how much would a guy be lookin' at for the whole project? (ballpark) (I have an old stir-crazy base I could use)

that looks like quite a contraption. how much effort did it require to put together? I assume you opened the stir crazy and removed/disconnected the heating element?
I've had the wind push my picnic table all the way across my deck (14'). Its pushed my 24" smoke vault a couple of feet - the force it would apply to a sheet of plywood... yeah the smoker would go down.
I use mine on my deck, when the wind is really bad I bungie cord a sheet of plywood cut to about 4x5 to the railing on the upwind side, works ok
DDave: that would be nice, but no way it would would stand up in winds we get here in Nebraska

not sure how they cook up "as ribs" since I've never bought them. Had one of my customers come tell me the local grocery store had "spare ribs" on sale for $0.99/lb a month or so back. I started getting all excited for ribs...
