No air flow issues for me. I pull the chip tube out about two inches as well as the chip tray inside the smoker.
I also ordered my pellets from A-MAZE-N. I have no experience with the Traeger pellets.

I am very new to smoking but I do have an MES and an AMZNPS. I have used the AMZNPS three times (once to cure the smoker and twice to cook) and have had no issues with it. I do not think I will ever use chips in it as the pellet smoker is so easy to use for me. Just follow the directions...
I thought that town looked familiar. So I looked it up on a map. We drive near there on our way to Hampton Beach every year. Good luck with the new smoker!
Hi. I'm new to this as well and have the same smoker you have. I'm sorry I can't help answer your questions. I'm just chiming in to see what others have to say.
The first smoke on my MES 30 and it was great! I set the temp to 250 but it hung around 270 - 280 for the duration according to the Maverick ET-733. I took the skin off and used Jeff's rub. I pulled it at 157 IT and let it rest for 15 minutes to reach an IT of around 166.
My only complaint...
So I am just now seasoning my MES 30 as I write this. I'm very excited to get started smoking some meat on this over the weekend. I can't take my eyes of the TBS it is generating from my AMNPS. Getting smoke was easier than I thought it would be (beginner's luck or just a good student?).
