...reaching max temp. for quite some time. I think it's time for some upgrades. I've been looking at a Savannah Stoker controller, but I read it works more like an oven and won't produce as much smoke. So I'm not sure a PID controller is what I want! Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I'll also say that I did have some initial issues with the Auber PID settings, but the Auber customer service folks took care of me and got me dialed in.
So I smoked a batch of summer sausage today and noticed my Inkbird PID temp display going crazy. Say my temp was set at 150°. When it got close to target temp, it would quickly start jumping from 149 to 155 to 147 to 150 and so forth. Would do that for about 5 seconds then quit and settle on a...
Did you actually verify your PID pit temps with a digital thermometer? PID controller may need some calibrating, it may have been running hotter than anticipated.
They look good though, I would put a few of them away.😋
...well... For both the SSR connections and the heat element connections... You won't need them on the low voltage +/- signal wires coming from the PID to the SSR ( I am assuming that is how the Inkbird works as that's the way the Auberns is. Let me know if it's different)...
Are you running...
Anybody ever rewired a newer masterbuilt smoker to run an auber pid. I have a two black wires, a red, and a white. Trying to figure out what wires need to be wired together for the auber to take over.
Thanks
...in line with someone saying " it's easy " , because everyone is different .
I thought the older Smokin Tex were analog , and the new ones were PID ?
If you have the analog one , all you need to do is set the smoker to the max temp , then plug it into the Auber . Auber to power and it controls...
...the cabinet and out the rear vent without contacting the food.
If you really drop deep into the rabbit hole, and you like to tinker, look into PID controllers. I have done this and now have a very consistent and repeatable smoking setup.
When this smoker wears out, I might consider an...
...valve so it can be set to the lowest start temperature and not need electronic ignition to start each time there is a call for temp. An arbour PID will control the solenoid and temperature steps. I used black pipe except for the supply lines at each end. It was significantly cheaper that way.
...tonight I got to relax with a little help of Patron silver.
Hopefully I sleep a few hours, I normally don't sleep well the night before a cook off, I always think that I'm forgetting something. I have everything I can prepped up, and your PID connected to my smoker, now it's up to me to execute.
This PID controller is from Auber Instruments and has all or most of the features used on the Smokin-it digital electric smokers and the Auber instruments plug and play PID controllers without Wi-Fi.
It's just the PID controller so you'd need to be able to build a PID box like a lot of people...
...Thursday: About 1pm pulled salmon out and rinsed off brine, drying fish and then on the racks. Into the fridge.
Friday: Smoker set to 100°f on PID unit.
Pallet maze filled with apple pellets and both ends lit. The smoker is a modified MES unit changed over years back.
Pellets set in the...
Thanks for all the help everyone! I did have another probe in yesterday reading the smoker temp and it was +/-5 degrees or so of the PID. It is a cheaper wireless thermometer but figured the PID was accurate. The fan kit I came across on aubers site when I was shopping for the PID. I initially...
