What did you end up using for a PID ? I used one of their 1/16 DIN WiFi PID controllers. Not as fancy as the one that you linked but you can view and change the temperature remotely.

Nice having something new. When the deck finally gets built I'm looking to get a higher end pellet pooper. The MES is definitely worth saving for sure. The simple rewire and a PID will certainly bring it back to life.

The solenoid is on off and controlled by a pid. The holes are 1/2” spaced at 3” right now. If too restrictive can make some/all bigger. Wont know until run it.

Hi there and welcome. Yeah @normanaj is completely correct! The PID would be cutting power Off to the entire MES. That means no power to the controller and heating element so it is effectively unplugging the MES. Then when it turns power back on, I believe the MES is no longer set to be "on"...
