Pellets tubes are also great to add more smoke flavor in a pellet grill.
I highly recommend Norn's u-bolt add to a tube. Helps hold in the pellets when you start and helps add more airflow. Mine use to go out when laid flat.
...My own hack for using a smoke tube either inside the MES or in the mailbox mod:

And the mailbox mod is pretty self explanatory all you really need to know is the chip loader hole is 3" dia. Below is just one example...
Todd Johnson A-Maze-N Products, Inventing the AMNPS and AMNTS (tray and tube pellet smoker generators.) He was very tuned in to members here with whether you need a tube or just the maze mostly based on your altitude of 3,000'+ for a tube. Vacuum sealers unlimited, Thermopro, Inkbird...
...the cold smoke attachment. I'm going to return it and get a side fire box for about the same price to utilize as a mailbox mod of sorts with a AMNTS/tube. It's made from cast iron so I don't have to worry about paint melting, can experiment with charcoal, etc... I think it just opens more...
I'll mostly be using it to make sausage, but it would be awesome to be able to regulate the temp low enough to do some cold smoking or high enough to do a turkey as well.
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll be sure to check those out.
I've got ham hock hands, too.
The Harbor Freight liners actually fit my hands and their 5 mil nitryl gloves are very stretchy.
You need the @normanaj U Bolt Mod for your smoke tube
Nice Job! I have the original 12" round Amazen tube smoker AMNTS and the 5"x8" Amazen pellet smoker AMNPS. I use the AMNPS mostly in the mailbox mod with my Mes 40 and 30 smoker and is a lighter smoke than the AMNTS. If lighting both ends of the AMNPS some folks just light the middle of the...
...and pepper rest for two days in a loose sealed vac bag to flip couple times a day and lime juice an hour before going to the grill. Fill the 6" AMNTS with Lumberjack 100% Cherry pellets and cold smoke two hours as it spins, then remove loin and start the charcoal fire. Hot smoke with the...
Yes indeed - I found that over 250-275, the pellets do burn up really fast. Thanks for the tip, I did add the mailbox mod, but still feel like I need more airflow to keep the pellets burning. Sometimes it's great, other times it goes out pretty frequently.
Here's a great mod by @normanaj

I've been using the tube for a lot of years . Never had an issue keeping it lit . I do use wood chips with the pellets sometimes , but store bought .
Forgot to point you to adding a u-bolt to your tube

Here's my thread on making half sized tubes

I use an amazn tube filled with dust made from pellets. clean, ultra thin burn for 10-12 hours...

But ya gotta pack it in tight. I use a short piece of 3/8" rebar to pack it.
...I did quite a few experiments using my old unit before settling on this design. I like my food very lightly smoked and never could dial in the AMNTS (I used the kettle grill as my mailbox).
I have a small active fire in the kettle grill and allow plenty of air movement through the smoker...
