Just got this smoker from a friend. Any advice to improve it? I'm relatively new to smoking. I have smoked 2 butts on my charcoal grill and a rack of ribs on my uglydrumsmoker. I can't wait to fire this big smoker up and learn on it .
...U will love theUDS. I have one and use it all the time.
If u look down in the social groups section there is a thread
named UDS. ( UglyDrumSmoker) lots of information to read..
biggest thing is to control your temp with the intakes, leave the exhaust
open until u want to snuff out the...
Thanks for all of the info. I'll take your advice to heart and focus on the quality of the meat itself before worrying too much about flavor profiles. Do you recommend anything for temperature control or should I just focus on the property venting? thanks again.
...modifications..., and the Weber name has been around for a good long while. Another similar smoker are the upright drums, or UDS (uglydrumsmoker) because many people make their own from scratch or a kit. I have a home made mini WSM and if I wasn't so sold on drums I'd surely have a WSM...
Sunday's smoke adventure wasn't so good. The temperature had dropped a fair amount from Saturday afternoon & I had trouble getting up to a decent temperature. Glad I was just experimenting, as it didn't work very well this time. I was only able to maintain a steady temperature of about 175...
I'm about hour and 45 from Columbus. 250 is about where I do mine normally on an uglydrum and that's about right in line for my times for smoke, wrap, finish. Not sure why but on my drum its a fast cook like that. Alway great results though.
Hey guys and gals. I bought a drum last fall and summer is coming so i figure it’s about time to do something with it. (If I can even get a kit across the border right now)
These kits both have their own benefits in my opinion. The udsparts.com kit...

$30/ea and a great barrel to start your own uglydrumsmoker from. The two I got were both unlined. Apparently they had sealed bags of silicone in them. Won't take much to turn these into great cookers.
...I don't miss staying up for hours on end tending coals on my offset smoker now I mainly use a Camp Chef pellet grill or an UglyDrumsmoker when I want that deep TX smokey flavor. If paddle boarding was a thing before I destroyed my back and neck in construction I know that I would've loved...
Well I got home tonight with plans of making spaghetti for the boys. Unfortunately the power was out. We are all electric so I had nothing. Apparently a car clipped a pole neer us and shut down about 50% of the township. What to do? Light some charcoal and throw a couple of kid cuisines on the...
That is looking sweet. Try a Google search for "ugly drumsmoker paint" and you will see plenty of paint themes to get ideas from. I like the ones with a top border of flames around the top.
Something to think about would be adding a hole at the bottom so a wiggle rod, can reach in under the...
You sound like the perfect match for an uglydrumsmoker, you can build a bare bones basic one for way less than $100. All you need is the barrel a grill grate or some meat hooks and rebar. You don't need fancy ball valves on riser pipes or anything like that unless you want them. We used to...
