If you take a look at the Smokin-it and SmokinTex web sites FAQ, you will see that these smokers have temperature swings in the 15 to 20 degree range high and low of the set point. These smokers are more expensive than the MES. Over the length of a smoke, they pretty much average the set point...
Works in my Smokintex, but it does have 2 fire boxes for wood. I put wood on one side and the charcoal on the other. Always gives me a deep smoke ring. Had people think the meat came off my big homemade offset. But I use hickory sticks burned down to coals in it. Lots of work.
Thanks all,
I think I'm going to PID my smokintex to get me through the winter. Then in the spring build smoke house to do my large batch processing. I'm excited to find this site. Ton's of good info.
Mike, You cannot go wrong with a smoker from Smokin-it. The Model 3D is a terrific bargain. Check out the SmokinTex and the Cookshack sites and see what you get for the same amount of money. I have been using my 3D for about a year and have not had so much as a hiccup. Everything I have smoked...
...many electric smokers. And SI smokers are more expensive, but they are very reliable units built entirely of stainless steel. Compared to SmokinTex and Cookshack, SI smokers are a bargain. Visit manufacturers websites and see what customers have to say if there is a comment section. Call the...
... However, that does not seem to bother the Bradley owners. Some other smokers to consider are those from Smokin-it, Cookshack, and SmokinTex. I can heartily recommend the Smokin-it and Cookshack smokers having owned and used both. The final link has videos. Good luck...
...barrel I turned into a smoker. Then built a big Offset smoker on a trailer. It would do 4 hogs at one time. Then bought one of the First SmokinTEx 1500's before they were on the market. Been using it for 11+ years and love it. Have fed hundreds at a time off it. But its a big smoker and hard...
I am a huge fan of the SmokinTex. A little above your price point, but much higher quality IMHO.
Did you ever give any of your neighbors some of the delightful treats that come from the smoker? That just might change their minds about complaining about the smoke.
Good Luck!
Smoke ON!

I like your ideal, Just ordered a #3 to go along with my SmokinTex 1500. Been using the Tex for years got one of the first test models. Getting the #3 where it will fit in our Basement of our RV. Looking forward to using the #3 side by side with the Tex. And comparing them. If the #3 is as good...
...warranty. Steve recently relocated his operation to Michigan from Ohio. The smokers are imported and very ruggedly built. And like the Cookshack smokers, the quality and reliability of the SI smokers are top notch, but without the high price. I cannot comment on the SmokinTex unit - no...
Try looking at the replacement racks at Smokin-it, CookShack and SmokinTex. You would have to bend them to get the lip you desire IF they measure up otherwise. Stay with stainless as anything plated (chrome or nickel) might crack the plating when bending. And metal shop should be able to help...
ray1000 - See if this helps you get what you want:

You will notice in the photos that the floor/bottom is not flat but concave/contoured to channel grease and drippings toward the drain.
Thanks!
I do drop off plates, they appreciate the gesture, but I still hear about it. That's why I asked about the box smokers being more efficient and having less smoke produced.
jgruberman - I would recommend looking at the smokers from Smokin-it, Cookshack, and SmokinTex. Cookshack is made in the USA and the most expensive of the 3. The smokers from SI and ST are imported, and are of great build quality. and the SI line are also the least expensive; all three are...
Hey there. Mike here from the Madison, WI area.
I picked up a SmokinTex 1400 series smoker a few weeks ago, and I'm ready to lay down a smoke trail!
Venison, beef, and fish will be getting high on smoke, brother.
Stout - Smokin-it (SI) has a real good reputation for quality and dependability. If you compare apples to apples - Smokin-it, SmokinTex, and Cookshack - which are all stainless steel inside and out - you will find the SI gives you the most bang for the buck. Has a great warranty as well (3...
