    Smoking on a gas grill?

...on a rib rack running parallel to the burners in the middle of the grill. Alternatively, I may get a small electric smoker (Smokin It, SmokinTex). Let me know your thoughts. If gas grills are sufficient for smoking, I may just buy a "large" grill (Genesis), but if I need to get a separate...

    Char-Broil 30" analog electric

...degrees, cycle off till the temp drops below the set temp then cycle back on. Normal. See the FAQ on analog smokers from Smokin-it and SmokinTex. They state temp variance by upwards of 20 degrees. So you should rest/smoke easy. Also, you may not have the most popular electric smoker on...

    Most Durable Electric Smoker

Cookshack makes excellent electric smokers. There are other more inexpensive options out there as well. I have a Smokin' It which are pretty good and there are others (SmokinTex for example). I personally think anything you can get at one of the big box stores would not be as well built.

Buying Season is Almost Here! What's your recommendation?

...makes a very good point. If you enjoyed your MES, stick with it. But if you want all stainless in and out you have 3 choices - Smokin-it, SmokinTex, and Cookshack. All more expensive than the MES. There is a new smoker called SmokeTronix and I believe Masterbuilt owns the company...

    Best smoker for sausage making

I have a SmokinTex electric that I use for sausage, jerky, dried beef, etc.

    Big Bite Electric Smoker

...Considering that much of what they sell is in stainless steel, and they charge a respectable price for their products, I am surprised that they did not go with a time tested and proven unit from SmokinTex or Smokin-it or even CookShack and keeping it in stainless steel. Just my two cents worth.

    Smokin-It to replace MES 30

...225 to 235 degree temp. Low and slow. They are very content with the temperature swings (see the FAQ on the Smokin-it site as well as the SmokinTex site), knowing that in the end, the temp averages out to the set temp. And they have the option, later on, to add a separate stand alone PID if...

Looking to buy an electric, but doesn't smouldering wood = bad combustion = creosote?

...it up. For the Bradley and the MES there should be little issue using the AMNPS with it and getting airflow. I don't think the Smokin-IT, SmokinTex, or Cookshack smokers have much info with users using the AMNPS but I would find a way to rig it up with a mailbox mod or something like that...

    Air flow

I don't know anyone who had done the mail box mod to their SI smoker, or for that matter, a SmokinTex or a Cookshack. There are some postings regarding thin blue smoke where the floor pan of a SmokinTex smoker has a couple of additional holes drilled in order to increase air flow so that the...

Looking to buy an electric, but doesn't smouldering wood = bad combustion = creosote?

...a beginner pit and have been considering electrics since I've gotten good results on my FIL's Bradley, but when looking at the Smokin-It, SmokinTex and Cookshack style of pits that use real hunks of wood instead of processed pellets/pucks, it seems to me those cookers only get the wood to a...

How can I find the best Electric smokers?

...(I am biased toward Smokin-it and Cookshack)) so you will pay more. Suggest you visit their individual sites for current info. I hope the download works. But if not, just look at Smoking-it, CookShac and SmokinTex. Feature for feature and warranty for warranty, Smokin-it is the hands down...

Looking to buy an electric, but doesn't smouldering wood = bad combustion = creosote?

Ah I actually use an AMNTS on my grill right now for cold smoking with great success! So if burning pellets in an electric gives you TBS, maybe I should be looking at a pellet smoker instead since some of them are almost as easy to use as an electric these days?

Help! Ready to buy MESS, but can't make heads or tails!

If it is all stainless (inside and outside) you prefer, then your choices are the Smokin-it, the CookShack, and the SmokinTex line of smokers. However, they are more expensive than the MES. Smokin-it offers a choice of analog and PID controllers.

Bradley Smoker vs Masterbuilt Smoker Pros Cons (advice needed)

You're using chunks with a Smokin-it? Which model? From their site, they look like all chips, and I'm a chunk fan.

Electric Smoker that uses CHUNKS, not chips or pellets.

...you can order a screen to use chips if you desire. I use chunks exclusively. While they may seem expensive compared to the big box store smokers, they are a bargain compared to the smokers from Cookshack and SmokinTex. Shipping is free. Bradley Smoker vs Masterbuilt Smoker Pros Cons (advice needed)

...to find them. While I cannot speak to biscuits or chips, I can tell you that Smokin-it uses wood chunks. A 3 to 6 ounce chunk or a couple of chunks totaling not more than 6 ounces is all that is needed even for a long overnight smoke. Check them out. Cookshack and SmokinTex are same in...
