...to reach and insert a valve. I think those hoses are 5/16”, but check the size first. You will really appreciate the improvement the needlevalve gives for control.
I like this valve:
Check your hose size. Thread these into the valve with thread sealant, and insert into your hoses with...
This is a two-stage, low pressure reg that is not adjustable. Two stages provide a more stable delivery as the pressure in the tank changes, which it can vary quite a lot going from a cool evening to hot sun. This worked very well with a needlevalve.
You need to stick with a low pressure reg.
I use the turkey fryer burner just fine with the CI pan on top for wood chunks, but a needlevalve is absolutely necessary to fine tune temps.
The CI pan also acts as a heat diffuser but my smokehouse house has 3’ x 3’ in the bottom for heat, then 4’ x 3’ on top for meats. At that transition...
I would go to home depot and measure a couple of different grils. The size off the holes in the fire tube must depend some on the valve. Are you using a needlevalve?
...I tried using the smoker, the burner kept going out. Thinking it may be a faulty regulator, I bought a new high pressure regulator with needlevalve. I tried using the smoker again, and after about 30 min the burner continued to go out. Any help would be great on this. I would love to get...
Regular grill valves do not have very much control. Sometimes only 1/2 to 3/4 turn for complete action. A needlevalve will allow better temperature control.
If you have a good propane appliance and parts shop, they should be able to help you select a needlevalve, two of the correct size barbs, and two hose clamps. And some thread sealant or Teflon tape. Take your hose with you so they can get the correct size barbs.
If you have the smoker valve after the needlevalve and want to control the gas with the needlevalve, the smoker valve has to be more open then the needlevalve. I would just open the smoker valve all the way and control with the needlevalve.
Thanks for the info. But a needlevalve have pipe thread and the orifices don’t have pipe thread. The building a burner part I can do i just don’t know how much btu my burner have and if I don’t know the btu then I don’t know how much burners I should put in the grill.
Cut the propane hose and install a needlevalve to control the propane flow....
THEN... because the flow is lower than recommended for your burner, you have to adjust the # of holes in the burner, so they won't blow out... The burner needs a fairly big flame to work properly...
Here is how some...
Smoke, Could you please post the specs or at least a picture of that low-pressure regulator you've mentioned? For some reason the link or picture you posted doesn't show up on my browser. I also have a Masterbuilt that burns too hot. But Bayou Classic told me the MP5HPR1 is high pressure amd...
for precision flame control, I highly recommend the propane needlevalve from Tejas smokers...

...jerry rigged the manifold to the smoker. Ran tests for hot and cold and attempted to see how low I could comfortably go with the new needlevalve.
The manifold is held in place at the hose end by an eye bolt I had laying around. I had to bend it open a little, probably should be bigger...
I was thinking about plugging the outer ring of holes in the burner with nails along with a needlevalve to get more control for smaller pots.
On windy days I have watch the flame. Tough to dial down a 30k+ BTU burner.
Thanks Bear. Owe it all to you. The gasser takes around 15 hours to get to temp. With the needlevalve it takes quite a few adjustments to get right temp but always comes out great after a few days rest in frig.
