Needle valve on propane smoker with odd regulator

...to reach and insert a valve. I think those hoses are 5/16”, but check the size first. You will really appreciate the improvement the needle valve gives for control. I like this valve: Check your hose size. Thread these into the valve with thread sealant, and insert into your hoses with...

This is a two-stage, low pressure reg that is not adjustable. Two stages provide a more stable delivery as the pressure in the tank changes, which it can vary quite a lot going from a cool evening to hot sun. This worked very well with a needle valve. You need to stick with a low pressure reg.

    Hot/cold smoke house build

I use the turkey fryer burner just fine with the CI pan on top for wood chunks, but a needle valve is absolutely necessary to fine tune temps. The CI pan also acts as a heat diffuser but my smokehouse house has 3’ x 3’ in the bottom for heat, then 4’ x 3’ on top for meats. At that transition...

    Building my own propane grill

I would go to home depot and measure a couple of different grils. The size off the holes in the fire tube must depend some on the valve. Are you using a needle valve?

    Masterbuilt regulator question

...I tried using the smoker, the burner kept going out. Thinking it may be a faulty regulator, I bought a new high pressure regulator with needle valve. I tried using the smoker again, and after about 30 min the burner continued to go out. Any help would be great on this. I would love to get...

    Building my own propane grill

Regular grill valves do not have very much control. Sometimes only 1/2 to 3/4 turn for complete action. A needle valve will allow better temperature control.

Needle valve on propane smoker with odd regulator

If your reg has a threaded fitting, that is a nice clean way to do it! BTW, I always admire the truck in your avatar!

    Replacing propane line

If you have a good propane appliance and parts shop, they should be able to help you select a needle valve, two of the correct size barbs, and two hose clamps. And some thread sealant or Teflon tape. Take your hose with you so they can get the correct size barbs.

Needle valve parts and usage ?

If you have the smoker valve after the needle valve and want to control the gas with the needle valve, the smoker valve has to be more open then the needle valve. I would just open the smoker valve all the way and control with the needle valve.

Needle valve parts and usage ?

No reason that shouldn’t work great. Just run the main valve on full. The needle valve makes a big difference.

    Replacing propane line

Cut the propane hose and install a needle valve to control the propane flow.... THEN... because the flow is lower than recommended for your burner, you have to adjust the # of holes in the burner, so they won't blow out... The burner needs a fairly big flame to work properly... Here is how some...

Needle valve parts and usage ?

Yup, normal flow and control flame with needle valve. You may find it useful to adjust both to get a good blue flame, or not.

    Masterbuilt problems

Smoke, Could you please post the specs or at least a picture of that low-pressure regulator you've mentioned? For some reason the link or picture you posted doesn't show up on my browser. I also have a Masterbuilt that burns too hot. But Bayou Classic told me the MP5HPR1 is high pressure amd...

    Smoke Vault gas smoker makeover

...jerry rigged the manifold to the smoker. Ran tests for hot and cold and attempted to see how low I could comfortably go with the new needle valve. The manifold is held in place at the hose end by an eye bolt I had laying around. I had to bend it open a little, probably should be bigger...

    Propane burner

I was thinking about plugging the outer ring of holes in the burner with nails along with a needle valve to get more control for smaller pots. On windy days I have watch the flame. Tough to dial down a 30k+ BTU burner.

    Venison dry beef

Thanks Bear. Owe it all to you. The gasser takes around 15 hours to get to temp. With the needle valve it takes quite a few adjustments to get right temp but always comes out great after a few days rest in frig.
