    Insulate MASTERBUILT 20070712 Electric Smoker

I can't really help you on your insulation questions. What I do if it's real windy or cold is wrap my MES in a welding blanket. Gary

    insulated blanket

I and my buddy across the street use a welding blanket during the warm up and pull it for the cook. I leave my on in colder temps as I mostly low and slow . Buddy doesn't smoke so he pulls it. Not sure what the book says, but 40° sounds about the range.

    Programmable electric smoker

...drastically the smoker may have problems holding temp. You could always buy some of that mylar bubble or fiberglass insulation or a welding blanket type item and just wrap the smoker from the outside to give it insulation in these times. Guys have done it and posted great results about doing...

Harbor Freight is a good source for a cheap welding blanket. Some use moving blankets, as well, which can also be purchased from Harbor Freight. https://www.harborfreight.com/6-ft-x-8-ft-fiberglass-welding-blanket-95015.html https://www.harborfreight.com/72-inch-x-80-inch-movers-blanket-66537.html

Hello welcome aboard. I used this blanket to cover my 590. I did purchase the all season vent covers and cut out around them and used foil tape to keep the material from shredding. Taped up any other cuts that were made also. Use heavy magnets (harbor freight) to hold in place...

...also up size the stack. I would also go with a 4" ID pipe 36 - 38 inches above. I also wouldn't have an issue with 3/16" plate either...... Honestly a welding blanket over the CC if there is wind or extra cold will compensate for a lot as well. Hopefully this gives you some ideas.............

You are not over thinking it. Any chance you could get your hands on a welding blanket? Maybe a sheltered location like under a patio cover or in the garage with the door open?

    Looking to start smoking

Temps in cold weather, you are correct. I have a MES 40 with blanket and welding blanket insulated and had a hard time doing a ham trying to maintain 250° but it was -8° also. RT 590 did 300° no problem in that temp.

my opinion is you will have temp swings but a welding blanket to cover your smoke chamber may help.

...gasket for the fire box because the biggest draw back to the top side fire box lids is leakage of heat.... On cooler or windy days a welding blanket will also be your friend. I would also gravitate to the brand that has the thickest gauge steel (as long as it is built tight)…….. As a side...

Thanks so much for the help! It's really appreciated. So just to recap. - Blanking plate on the top of the FB to CC input, then if flow restricted potentially opening further to the sides as required. If I add 30% to the volume (28.35" vol from the calculator, plus 30% = 36.86"), it would...

    Increase Propane smoker heat output

Oh here is the solution that really did it, get a 6x8ft welding blanket, wraped it around the smoker, cut holes for ventilation and screwed back the handles and all fixtures again over the double layered welding blanket.
