    Inkbird PID going crazy

So I smoked a batch of summer sausage today and noticed my Inkbird PID temp display going crazy. Say my temp was set at 150°. When it got close to target temp, it would quickly start jumping from 149 to 155 to 147 to 150 and so forth. Would do that for about 5 seconds then quit and settle on a...

    Botched snack sticks, need guidance

Did you actually verify your PID pit temps with a digital thermometer? PID controller may need some calibrating, it may have been running hotter than anticipated. They look good though, I would put a few of them away.😋

    Masterbuilt Rewire for auber pid

Anybody ever rewired a newer masterbuilt smoker to run an auber pid. I have a two black wires, a red, and a white. Trying to figure out what wires need to be wired together for the auber to take over. Thanks

Masterbuilt Pro MDS 230S Dual Fuel Smoker Caught Fire!

...the cabinet and out the rear vent without contacting the food. If you really drop deep into the rabbit hole, and you like to tinker, look into PID controllers. I have done this and now have a very consistent and repeatable smoking setup. When this smoker wears out, I might consider an...

Electric Smoker WiFi 710 model temp calibration

Thank you for you input. Could you explain the PID please?

Another smoker of my own design.

Looks nice. A little convection action with the fan and a pid. You forgot the shelves and hanging rods, lol. Almost time to get the smoke rolling.

PID controller with smoke schedule and food holding

This PID controller is from Auber Instruments and has all or most of the features used on the Smokin-it digital electric smokers and the Auber instruments plug and play PID controllers without Wi-Fi. It's just the PID controller so you'd need to be able to build a PID box like a lot of people...

    Botched snack sticks, need guidance

Thanks for all the help everyone! I did have another probe in yesterday reading the smoker temp and it was +/-5 degrees or so of the PID. It is a cheaper wireless thermometer but figured the PID was accurate. The fan kit I came across on aubers site when I was shopping for the PID. I initially...

    PID Recommendations

I am doing something very similar to this thread for the gas supply: https://www.smokingmeatforums.com/threads/added-valves-plus-pid-controller-to-propane-smoker.282441/

Help me pick a new smoker!

Find a used 40" MES on Craigslist,FB market place or wherever.Rewire it for a PID then do the mailbox mod and use an Amazen tube/tray in it. You'll never have a better electric smoker for the money.

Newbie looking for reccs from NotNewbies

I certainly understand the appeal! I specifically went with analog because our power is prone to outages and surges, figured it might be too easy to fry the electronics. Something to consider of your power supply is sketchy perhaps?

Electric Smoker WiFi 710 model temp calibration

Welcome to SMF! Yes the MES units are known for being inaccurate. Most here have gone the way of putting in a PID which does an excellent job AND many have done the mailbox mod which frees up feeding wood chips.

Heating Element/Temp Controller for DIY Smoke House

Does the TC control the supply ?? Meaning if the flame goes out it turns the gas off ?? If not I STRONGLY suggest using a fail safe system like that... I remember that thread as well... I've also heard of others using a PID for gas...

    Snack stick temps stall.

...standard smoked fare like chicken/ribs/etc. Zero water for that stuff. I used my MES a long time for that stuff and it was good but wish someone woulda suggested a pellet grill as it really does a much better job than the MES. That said, MES + PID works fantastic for sausage (and cured stuff).

    Recteq question

...back to an offset, can't stand babysitting it anymore, so I'm back to a bigger pellet pooper, still use the drum for some things, but I use a PID stoker unit on it. 90% of my smoking is 90 to 100* + summer heat, and I just don't enjoy sweating over coals for hours on end anymore, so it's back...

    Building a smoker in Utah

...with thermocouple to sense when the fire goes out and cuts the gas flow. dont want your new smoker blowing up. yours is small enough chamber, you could use electric heat element. there are a few good threads on here for using a PID to control the heat with a solenoid valve to regulate the gas...

Electric Smoker WiFi 710 model temp calibration

I have the MES sportsmen model. My unit at 2 different times got over 350°f without shutting down. One time it got over 375. This was a brand new unit at the time. I wouldn't trust the cutoff switch. I replaced everything with a pid unit I wired in and a better cutoff switch.

RecTec 590 wont go above 180

...working just fine after your cleaning. ie about 3-4 mins to initial fire (temp rise), the fan kicks on and 150 temp is hit in 2-3 mins, then the PID kicks in and slowing increase to 225 over about 20 minutes. The cold temp is the contributing "dips" in the climb when the auger or fan cycled...

    Pellet Smokers

GMG makes a nice smoker, I have the baby one, and many of my friends have bigger ones. They have a true PID controller and have a very nice smoke profile. Recteq is also nice (I love mine) but if the GMG is in your price range and the RT isn't I would snag one without hesitation.....

Relay on the board in the bottom has welded it's contacts in the on position. Replace the board, if it is still available, or better, rewire per instructions above and buy a PID controller for a significant improvement in your smoker.
