Does anyone use a Yoder YS480S... or YS640S?

My MES40 (third one) has died. Moving on to another smoker. Considering a Yoder pellet grill. Anyone have any experience with either the Yoder 480 or 640? Specifically, I am wondering about the "smoky" flavor with the Yoder 480 (or 640). I have read in some reviews that the Yoder 480 (or...

Do you leave your pellet grill plugged in?

No I don’t! I have a Yoder 640 and they recommend that it gets unplugged after every use. Not sure what other companies recommend but when I had a RecTeq and Green Mountain I always unplugged them also.

Does anyone use a Yoder YS480S... or YS640S?

I’ve been debating the Yoder vs an old country gravity for a year. One of these trips to Ace could have that yoder coming home with me!

Recteq Beast 1000, high heat test.

I tried to see how hot my Yoder would get without the baffle plate in. It melted the glue on the door gaskets and they all fell off. Live and learn.

Does anyone use a Yoder YS480S... or YS640S?

I've cooked a few times on a friend's Yoder 640, and I was pleased with the smoke flavor. It's one of the better pellet grills if that's what you're looking for, but it won't totally replace the profile of a conventional stick burner. If you intend to retain it for many years, the exceptional...

In the market for a new smoker. Any recommendations?

...need more info like budget, options looking for, have wood supply for stick burner? I have a lang stick burner that produces better results than my yoder pellet. The convenience is hard to beat though. I just bought my dad a recteq 600 for FD. Personally prefer over pitboss due to better quality.

This. the Yoder 640 is a highly regarded unit. There is an adjustment period when switching smoker types. I went from charcoal to pellet. They are not the same animal.

    MAK Grills closing

Same, years ago when I was shopping for a pellet smoker my top 3 were MAC, Yoder and RecTeq.

How does your pellet grill cook. After moving to a 640 Yoder, my first pellet grill and coming from a WH offset, I really don't like the bottom up cooking for brisket, pork butt of even ribs. Is there any pellet smokers that cook from top down? It appears that the LSG pellet smokers are as close...

...works well. I had to replace the ignited already, which wasn't so bad. I'm looking to upgrade my smoker/pit. I have been researching the Yoder, Pitts & Spits, Lone Star Grillz and Weber, I'm leaning towards the Lone Starr brand. Any suggestions or recommendations you have would be helpful.

Does anyone use a Yoder YS480S... or YS640S?

I'd go for the Yoder 640 . I don't have one ( yet ) , but you'll find out in a hurry that it will become the go to 95% of the time . A step above the main line pellet grills .

    Recteq question

I’ve never owned Reqtec but I know they are real good ones. The only concern I see is that this grill comes in right with my Yoder 640 in total grill area at 1000sq in. And that’s a lot of real estate to heat up when only cooking a couple racks of ribs or one chunk of meat. It’s real handy...

In the market for a new smoker. Any recommendations?

I don't want to go above 1200 from a budget standpoint. Looking for something that is easy to clean. Storage will be inside but I live in a cold climate. So something that can do the job in cold weather is big.

    Time for a new smoker

ReqTec Beast has 1220 sqin and the Yoder 640 has 1050 sqin. Not certain on ReqTec's math because if you use the rack dims provided it comes to 1145. Don't know what comprises your 'larger cooks'. From users here on FM the customer service at ReqTec is very good. Don't know about Yoder.

Does anyone use a Yoder YS480S... or YS640S?

Just to stir it up a little. If you are looking at Yoder, check out the Rec Teq and MAC units. These were my top three choices over a decade ago. Went with the Rec Teq and have zero regrets. But I believe all these are a worthy investment that will last you a long time.

My new Lone Star Grillz Pellet Smoker finally arrived!!

Congratulations, looks great. Also just fyi, LSG also sells wood chips that they recommend mixing with your pellets for more smoke flavor. I don’t know if they make a difference or not but I have considered buying some to run through my Yoder 640. Enjoy your new grill and thanks for the pics.

I run a 640. One of the big advantages of the 640 is the fire pot on the far left side coupled with the adjustable slide baffle. So I suggest you play with that a bit. If you push the baffle up close to the fire pot and have your meat to the right side of the grate then you kinda have the same...

I bought a Yoder YS640S Pellet grill. Lots of smoke but I use a smoke tube on longer smokes like brisket or pork butt. Very happy so far.

Damn. Wrong end of the country. There is one near me in Oregon for sale, $1800, like new. Those look like really nice smokers.
