...model,couldn't find a decent enough one with the door open to get a good look at the inside.A quick fix might be leaving the drawer open but drilling out your own hole and making a proper vent would be a better solution, though if your going to go that far you might as well just do the mailbox...
...some great food my MES 40 and still use occasionally. Gave a 30 to a son in law and have another 30 sitting on standby😁. I never used the mailboxmod but have used a smoke tube and used a small aluminum pan filled with ashed over charcoal and wood chunks.
Good luck in you search for the new...
...generator port will work. Just know that I've seen a post or 2 where people mention using a voltage controller like @dsk mentions for turning down the voltage on that smoke generator allows for it to smolder better.
I use an AMNPS and mailboxmod so can't speak to the MES smoke generator...
A used Masterbuilt electric (MES) with the mailboxmod and an Amazen tray/tube. Do a simple rewire and add a PID controller and you'll end up with a sausage smoking machine.
But a pellet tube and use it in lieu of the chips. Amazen is one brand. Place it in bottom of smoker or use a mailboxmod. Lots of posts on this issue to search for other ideas.
I have to put my smoker inside and take it out ea time due to weather..I did drill a hole on the side and added a new large Temp gage.... Guess I can just install a vent thing likes on the top and place it down low I assume
I'm hoping cycling every hour on/off will keep it in check. Otherwise, I'm just going to throw one of those pellet tubes in it and use that. Mailboxes aren't cheap anymore and I got this for a steal so worth a shot.
Actually, that's very cheap... I'm going to Harbor Freight anyways to grab a...
...dust independently of the MES element. They're lit using a propane torch and either placed in the smoker or outside the smoker using the "mailbox mod". These can produce in upwards of 12 hours of continuous smoke.
Because of room constraints I use a ubolt modified tube burning dust in my MES...
...below set temp then 1/2 degree below set temp switches for 50% power and off at set temp. For 265 smoking in the Mes 40 volume with mailboxmod and open top vent there's no over shoot and gets up to temp in an hour or less with a 17lb brisket, butts or ribs. It may over shoot preheating empty...
Yours look great too, ironic that we had almost the same specs. I like the little bit of crust I got from the long smoke time, do you still get that with the shorter smoke? Also, I hung mine vertically. I worry about the grill contact rendering a little fat at the contact points and heat being...
...ceiling for snack sticks. I just hang them on dowels and then hang the dowels on the magnets and it works great!
Definitely recommend the mailboxmod. I use it for everything now. I don't like the built-in smoker, or the attachment cold smoker. With the mailbox, I can even get it smoking for...
...like my Mes 40 with the flipped heating element. That mod for even heating and not baking the insulation in the right rear corner, mailboxmod and PID are fantastic. That reminds me I need to get my back up heating element prepped in case my current one fails. I cut the aluminum flat...
I was thinking about that. I have someone picking up my 30” today because I’m moving to a suburb of Houston next weekend. Keeping my MB cold smoker attachment. I also have an Amazon smoke tube for pellets. I rarely use it though. It’s a bit of a pain to get and keep going and I like flipping the...
I tend to rest my meat in a MES smoker. Bought it a few years ago because I was planning to mod it with a mailbox and cold smoker. Never got around to that, but it does hold temp and can be set as low as you could want it. You can also add water if you want higher humidity.
I have the same issue! I just got mine a few days ago, and I hate it so much! Totally over-smoked my last batch and there was nothing I could do to reduce the smoke. Maybe in a larger smoke house, but for a little MES 30 I think it's way too much.
Going back to mailboxmod with maze.
Thanks so much for the help. I looked at some YouTube videos on the trays and tubes. I didn’t see any that featured the U-bolt mod though. Out of curiosity, what is the benefit of adding that mod to the tubes?
No problem. This thread is pretty big now so it's not easy to come in at any point and sort through the info. The initial post incorporates most of the necessary info but it may miss a small percentage of things needed or people just have questions. You are asking and getting things fixed...
