I went to Lowe's yesterday and found 100% wood lump charcoal for 4.99 per bag. I believe the brand is "Coyboy Charcoal." I have not used it yet, but nothing could be worse than the Wal-Mart charcoal I used the first time I smoked!
I am new enough to this hobby that I don't claim to have any answers from first-hand experience yet. However, I was told to rub my smoker (inside and out) after each use with olive oil in order to keep it clean and cure the metal. While I am not sure if this will extend the life of the paint...
Here is one that I like:
1 cup apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons Kosher salt
2 tabelspoons crushed red pepper
1 tabelspoon brown sugar
