If you open the thermostat up, you will see where you might be able to direct wire it, effectively turning it into one like the Brinkman. At least, it looks that way to me. I'm getting some ceramic wire nuts today. Then, plug into your PID to control the temp. It's a thought.
Hi All,
Slllloooowwwly continuing to work on my build. Job changes, plan changes ect.
In the meanwhile, Brinkmann discontinued the heating element I was going to use. I"m leery of using range top elements as I am not an electrician and don't want to create a problem with re-wiring. My...
It's a beautiful smoker. I really appreciate your eye for detail. Could you tell me why you decided to put your fire box door in the back? Reason I ask is I have a fridge with the extra compartment on the bottom like yours. I was thinking of rigging a hinge to the cover so I could open it and...
I put the word out I was looking for a 2nd old refrigerator for my buddy thinking it may take months for one to turn up for a reasonable price. A few days later, I found an International Harvester for him for a whopping $60. He loves it more than his wife now, I think. Here's the dilemma; they...
I am working on my first build as well. Pics like yours are really inspiring. Thanks for posting and don't stop until you show us your first smoked rack.

This is NOT me. This is my good buddy and professional metal fabricator showing me how I can easily cut sheet metal with a cut-off wheel on a...
Here's just a few pics to show my slow but sure progress... This is the original insulation that was in the Admiral refrigerator. It would smolder when you held a lighter to it so it all had to come out.
Hi Everyone,
I am slowly but methodically working on my build. At first, I was not going to bother with a PID, (I was not going to bother with painting it or doing much of anything other than throwing in a heating element and a skillet of wood chips.) but now....oh boy, I'm going all out...
I don't think I've ever done anything perfect the first time. First time is for learning. Heck, the same thing can be said for life, "If only I knew then, what I know now.". Thanks for posting.
Things are slowly coming along. I discovered, as have others, a tar like substance covering the floor and bottoms of the sides when I removed the old insulation. There was quite a bit of it. It was rock hard and would not soften with any solvent I had on hand. I did knock a chip off and held it...
