I answered that question above, it’s for smoke to get in where I want it, and to save on weight. Thanks for the input but I actually already did it the way I planned and it works great! I’ll do a full post once it’s done, still need to add decorative brick on the outside.
thanks for passing that along! the supplier got back to me and actually said they're just regular fire bricks, that is just the name they use for them in their catalog. So I guess that's why there's not much to be found about them online, they're not a different thing from regular fire brick!
Hey all, I'm reaching out to local mason suppliers to find a good price on fire bricks. One company got back to me with a great price ($1.74 for 8.25x4x2.5 bricks) but rather than standard fire bricks I'm seeing around, they are ladel (ladle?!) bricks, which appear to be used in steel foundry...
Thanks for your thoughts, I appreciate it!
I actually do want to be able to use it as a stick burner too, and be able to switch between charcoal and wood depending on how much time and effort I want to put into the cook. Would that change anything, knowing I want to be able to use wood too?
I...
Hey everyone, posting a new thread here to start over with my process of researching and building my brick smoker. I changed direction pretty drastically after a lot of feedback from posters here (thanks for that, everyone!) and settled on an overall basic design I want to move forward with...
Ok, so I have changed my plans around quite a bit as I've started collecting materials that I want to use for my smoker/pizza oven. I really wanted to source the doors from decorative/old fashioned cast iron hardware, so I've obtained two Timberline wood stove inserts, like this:
And I'm...
Fair enough! I could have been more clear in describing the picture, I failed to realize that not everyone would be familiar with that kind of setup, so that was my bad. I really appreciate your responses and this forum in general, I'm getting a much better idea of what I want to build, and it's...
@tx smoker thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. For the record, the picture I posted is, in fact, a legitimate smoker design, and @daveomak has detailed a similar build style throughout this forum. You can see it being shown here and here as well. It does not defy the law of physics, it just...
Hey tx smoker, I'm planning out building a vertical brick smoker and poring through the smoker build threads to figure out what kind of design I want to go with. I was originally thinking of going with an offset firebox, but I got enough feedback saying it would take an offset brick smoker a...
I'll be honest, a lot of that is going right over my head, any chance you'd be willing to point to a diagram or drawing that shows what you're talking about? Thank you so much for all the thought you're putting into this, I appreciate it so much and I'll be sure to keep updating as things progress!
