I make tri-tips all the time on the Weber kettle.
We like it with a medium to heavy amount of rub, fridge overnight if you can.
Slice thin against the grain, I usually make 2 good size tips and they are both gone in one sitting.

I have the Weber Spirit and it is great! Easy to use and clean. Has a thermometer built in the lid too.
Target had them on clearance for $199. Yesterday, Lowe's had them for $499.

Here are some pics of my cart. I used an old Charbroil propane BBQ that I was going to throw out.
Removed the main lid and side burner, painted it and added some table area. I did have to attach the
cart to the UDS with L brackets to make it sturdy.
