    Hot/cold smoke house build

Inaugural smoke today, coming to a close on the project. Just need to finish the offset, chimney, and inside tray/racks. Happy with it.

Oh, yea if you look at the base where the flange is there's half a cinder block open.

No, air out take. A chimney.

    Hot/cold smoke house build

Another day and a half in, starting to come together. Starting to get down to the details now, such as the offset and venting. Going to purchase a cheap pellet smokestack offline, can get them for like $25. Question, is the ability to damper the stack needed? I'm guessing not since most...

    Hot/cold smoke house build

Good info, appreciate that. I don't think I asked what yours was made of, did you stain or poly yours for weather protection? Little concerned on the connection point where the wood meets the block, not really sure how to address that but I could protect the outside.

    Hot/cold smoke house build

Started my build today, blew a hydraulic hose right off the bat so didn't get as far as I would of liked. More thinking on it then building, but foundation and game plan is now set. Will be able to accommodate turkey burner, internal fire ring, or offset fire box. Next weekend I will frame...

    Hot/cold smoke house build

@SmokinEdge do you have any issues getting temps high enough with your turkey burner? Is yours insulated? My build is roughly going to be 4x6, head-ish height. Again, im looking to do sticks jerky bologna bacon etc more so then BBQ. Also, what is your bottom vent set up? I think I'm just...

    Wood smoke house finish

No not looking to clean the inside, that is what it is. Just figured if I can be proactive in protecting the exterior aesthetics of something that I'm building and is visible, it would be in my best interest to do so.

    Wood smoke house finish

Lol I meant discoloration of the smoke house from where the smoke pours out the holes. I have an outdoor wood boiler and I know how the front gets discolored where the door is from the smoke so I figured it would be the same. If I build it nice I'd like to do my best to keep it presentable...

    Wood smoke house finish

That's awesome, I will read it in detail. Question on the holes for venting, I was considering this but thought the continuous smoke through the wood could cause discoloration or defects which put me on the chimney path. Did you have any issues with this?

    Wood smoke house finish

Wow thats really nice. I see your fire is outside, what temps can you run? What are you smoking mainly? Do you have a chimney vent?

    Wood smoke house finish

Just cut the pine for my build, unfortunately didn't have access to cedar. It will be on cinder blocks so no ground contact, and I am planning a metal roof. Would like to finish the outside to protect it from the elements, what would you recommend? Not sure if food safety comes into play if...

    Hot/cold smoke house build

Whats the consensus on finishing the wood on your build? I will be using untreated, probably pine, as I don't have red cedar. Are you finishing yours with a sealer to protect it from the elements, and any specific considerations as it concerns to food?

    Hot/cold smoke house build

So in theory you could focus on a hot smoker and throw a pellet tube in the bottom for if/when you want to cold smoke?

How does the pellet tube work, how is it heated or ignited? Is there anything you would do differently or FYI in your build? Appreciate all your insight BTW...
