Going to be an interesting year for new grills I think

Just saw an OK Joes Rider DXL that I was really impressed with, and already my Wallmart has the Bit Boss KC series and Lockhart that looks pretty sweet. Now if they just had a decent WiFi app. Not this bluetooth crap. -J

well I did some testing tonight and it appears to be a standard PT100 type sensor. $3 at the electronics parts store.

Cutting 2 of the 4 fan blades off auger motor

Harbor freight orbital sander... I had the same idea of attaching something to the hopper that "shakes" but you should have seen the type of vibrating things my searches returned. :emoji_wink:

Cutting 2 of the 4 fan blades off auger motor

I agree that it can pre-maturely wear bearings, but the auger motors run at well under duty cycle, so I'm not too concerned with bearing wear being an issue. I could also use some adhesive lead weight on one of the blades to get the same result. I will however try waxing the inside of the...

Cutting 2 of the 4 fan blades off auger motor

So I constantly have issues with pellets getting hung up in the hopper. Since I'm limited on space, I really don't want to just add more hopper height. So I was thinking, why not cut two consecutive fan blades off of the auger motor in an attempt to significantly unbalance it and cause vibration...

What type of temperature sensor does GMG use?

Does anyone know what type of temp sensor the GMG controllers use? I am going to use one of their WIFI controllers for a custom build, and the GMG probe is not going to fit properly. So without buying one just to figure it out, does anyone know what type it is? PT100, PT1000, K type, other?

    Big horn xl

You could also get a GMG WiFi controller and wire it in and have all the WiFi's.

    show me your hopper extensions

The problem with the Masterbuilt hopper is that it doesn't hold much, maybe 10-15 lbs. So I'm looking to build a hopper extension and wanted to get some ideas. -J

Is the smoke setting ok for a large brisket for about 10 hours

I don't think it sounds like a bad idea. You may want to cover your pit with a moving blanket or two and I bet your temp would come up another 25* or so. --J

Bet 'ya don't have one of these!

350* all day long in the horizontal. The vertical is uninsulated and is about 30* cooler. I had to do a little metal fabrication work. Just an adapter plate on the OK Joe's and another to mate up the vertical onto the 3" stack, and some brackets to hold it together. If I wanted, I could move...

Bet 'ya don't have one of these!

Wanted to share my new pit. What happens when you take a Masterbuilt pellet smoker and combine it with a OK Joe's Highland... What do you think?

    PID controller questions

yep, clearly wasn't clear there was I. When I mentioned the P adjustment I was talking about how some controllers like the Masterbuilt, Pit Boss and some Treagers use a P setting on the controller for a level of smoke flavor adjustment. Not the P meaning the first letter of PID. If I convert my...

    PID controller questions

Question for those of you that have converted to a PID controller. How do you adjust your smoke output? or do you even need to. My understanding is that I loose the functionality of the "P" adjustment by going to PID. I guess I could use a smoke generation tube or something if I want more...

DIY Downdraft - Traeger Big Tex

I used this technique on my OK Joe's stick burner to get the grate temps more even even after installing the tuning plates. It did help that setup quite a bit. However, now that I've removed the firebox and converted that pit to pellets, I found that extending the stack to grate level was...
