Thanks for pointing that out Dr K, I saw that frayed bit of insulation as well. Luckily I have a decent length of wire to work with so cutting behind the frayed part shouldn't be a problem.
Yep, makes perfect sense, thanks for the info.
I'll take pics as I do the mods and post here when everything is done and running so others in the future will have pics of the mods for this model MES.

So my MES electronic controller took a crap this weekend and the replacement part is no longer made. The model number of my smoker is 20070215. None of the parts places online have the controller and Masterbuilt says no other controller crosses over, so I guess I now own a......box?

I use Purple Power degreaser and hot water to clean the SS Scotch-Brite. I just spray it down so it's soaked, massage it throughout the pad and then rinse thoroughly with hot water. Takes about 5 minutes. I do the same thing after each use to clean it.
Trying out your SS Scotch-bright filter tomorrow John. Cleaned it and stuck in in the outflow pirt of my Masterbuilt cold smoker. I'll let you know how it works out!
