Increase Green Mountain DB grill cooking area with a shelf

Have had a Green Mountain Daniel Boone for six years.  Love it.  Shortly after I got it, I found there were times I wished it had more cooking area.  Went to the Big Box Store and bought a grill grate, some 5/16" threaded rod, some self locking nuts (16 total), and large diameter fender washers...

Anyone here own a Green Mountain pellet grill?

Buck, here are photos of the shelf.  11"x22".  Threaded rod is 5/16", 9" long.  Find a stainless grate if you can.  Use a hacksaw or a dremel tool with the cutoff wheel. (Which I did) to cut the grate to the size you want. Several comments about your grill being 25-30 degrees off.  First I...

Anyone here own a Green Mountain pellet grill?

Will get out in the morning and take a couple of photos and post it.  As far as the temp, mine is always within +/- 5 degrees of where I set it,which is almost always between 220-240.  Maybe I'm just lucky with my controller.

Anyone here own a Green Mountain pellet grill?

Have a GMG Daniel Boone.  Got it almost 6 yrs ago.  Love it. When I first got it, I had some trouble with the controller.  Called their customer service, talked to a fellow named Neil.  Couldn't have been more helpful.  Sent me a new controller free.  It was also the newer model with the temp...

A new Aldis has just opened in Port St. Lucie, close to me.  I will check it out.

Sorry I didn't reply to you sooner.  I agree about Publix.  It has been my go to supermarket for over 40 years.  I don't buy meats for smoking from them because their prices are high, and you can't buy larger cuts of beef or pork for smoking on a day to day basis.

Anybody have experience with buying meats from BJ'S?

BJ's seems to be only game in town around where I live that has larger beef and pork cuts to smoke.  I don't care for what Sam's Club has to offer, and the nearest COSTCO is 50 miles away.  If you have bought from BJ's, how did it turn out?

Not so nice right now.  Going down to 36 tonight.  Cold for us, but nothing like what the folks along the eastern coast are going through now.

I am a little puzzled about your post.  What do you mean about an unanswered question I have not asked?  Was I supposed to play 20 Questions, or just tell everyone a little about myself?

Hello Everyone!  I'm 73, retired, and live on the coast close to Jensen Beach, FL.  Love to cook, and smoke on my GMG pellet grill, which I have had for six years.  Also enjoy grinding my own meats.  Golf and fish when I feel like it. Tom
