Glad i cold help. Looks like a flared coupling, that's a guess. I think these are all 1/4" parts. Typically I just take a part in to Menards and use it to make sure I buy the right sizes for any other fittings I need. Don't use tape on flared fitting, just the NPT threads.

Froman, should work the same. $20 regulator, or $5 needle valve. They do the same thing on my brew equipment - I use needle valves for my hard piped multi burner stand, and a similar regulator for single burner set up.
Smokeyb, just adding to the steel isn't going to help your heat situation. If you are worried about it, add insulation to the outside. What's the point of adding metal to the inside???
