I bought 25 pounds of top round yesterday from United for $1.79 lb. and had it cross-cut at 1/4 inch. Took about 30 minutes to trim the fat, etc. and lost about 7% in trimming. Was really happy with it. My new meat tumbler is supposed to be in today. Looking forward to trying that thing...
Just ordered a tumbler and it's still $99.99 at checkout. Hope this thing works! If so, I'm gonna love it! Hard to believe it can marinade meat that quickly. Hurry up mail man! LOL

Been following the site for quite a while. Lots of good ideas on here, and I wanted to add a few of my own in the mix so I'm not just taking without giving something back. Just turned 55 today, and have been cooking since I was a kid. It's just something I've always enjoyed. I get a little...
Albertson's and United normally put rump roast on sale for $2.99 a pound. I think it's about as good as you can get to make jerky with, and about the cheapest cut for me here.

That is something I honestly can not answer as I've never had to deal with the altitude issue. However, I wouldn't think it would be any different for pickles than other water bath canning. You don't have the issues with pickles that you would with tomatoes, for instance. You might want to...
Doesn't seem to suck the bags down all the way, or doesn't suck them down all the way to where it will automatically go to Seal?
One thing you might try before throwing that thing away and buying a new one is to treat those spongy little strips that help it seal. Those can dry out and it won't...
Don't be alarmed if the brine in the jars looks a little bit cloudy. The alum will do that, although it may take months before you really notice it.
They are ALWAYS best if refrigerated before opening, although not necessary.

Ever use Easy Off Oven Cleaner, or some such cleaner, to clean your broiler pan or something like that? That stuff wouldn't be real healthy if you didn't wash it after cleaning it with those products. In fact, it would be down right dangerous. I always wash mine in hot, soapy, water and rinse...
This isn't for outdoor cookin, but it could be for outdoor eatin with BBQ. LOL
Great pickle recipe I thought I'd share. My family has used this recipe for decades. You may be raising pickling cucumbers or you can go to your local farmers market and get some. If you're going to go to the farmers...
Right...you don't go from the car wash and put the racks back on and then go to droppin meat on them. You MUST clean them fully when you take them back home.
I have as many as 12 deer at a time hanging in my barn and jerk them on the halves so my racks can get pretty gunked up with marinade...
Actually, I use the soap cycle first and then rinse. Still have to take them home to rinse in hot soapy water and rinse. I've been doing that for more than 30 years and never had a problem. If you had your own power washer that would be great. I never did, and don't. I run the sprayer a...
Take them to the car wash. My dehydrator has 12 racks. It's worth a couple bucks to clean those babies easily. Wash'em at the car wash, and then bring them home and dip them in hot soapy water in the sink to sanitize them. Take a big garbage bag along with you to the car wash to put them in...
Rump roast is a good cut of meat to use. I usually load up when they run it for $2.99 a pound. It's lean, and not much fat to cut out. The butcher will slice it for jerky for free. I normally have mine cut 1/4 inch and then trim the fat off the rest of the way at home. There will be a...
