Yes, I ran the calcs about 8 times to test how things playe out. Mid 70's for the temps. The wind was set up to blow into the SFB. Did try different orientations due to swirling wind. I am afraid the metal is so thin that I lose it ou of the SFB and the CC.
Thanks
Have any of you fellas ever used a welding blanket for insulating purposes?
I built an horizontal offset out of a 55 gallon drum and 120# grease barrel and tried to use it this weekend. I could not get the temps above and maintained above 200*. I realize it may not be the most effecient smoker...
Thanks for the info. There is no reddish color and if my memory recalls I believe if you have a little surface rust on the inside, which I did, there is no liner. I have also touched it up with a wire wheel on the inside and the charring just flaked off. Will take that for no liner. I have this...
I got two oil drums from NAPA. I have burned the paint off both with three burning to be on the safe side. How would I know if there was a liner in the barrels? The inside is now Charred up and I want to get it ready for the fourth of July.
thansk
This is the mock stage before the big burn out. It was an oil and a grease barrel. I did not have access to a welder so I just bolted it together. It will be taken apart burned out, cleaned, and the put back together with all the little things attached.
Thanks guys I cut the hole today. I put it at pretty much the center of the drum. It will be splitting the cooking rack so I pretty much kind of split the difference. I will post some pics of it once I get some time.
Thanks Dirt Guy! After osme searching that is what I thought but was a little confused. i think I'll put it at grate level and run with it. Thanks again.
I noticed that some companies place the exhaust for a offset smoker about at grate level and some companies put them up high. I am doing a horizonatl drum smoker with sfb and want to know where to put the exhaust? At the grate elevation or at the top of the barrel? What is teh difference in...
I just picked up 3-55 gallon drums. I want to make an offset smoker out of them. I am trying to figure out the opening to the C.C. to the SFB. Using the excel spreadsheet floating around here it comes up with 40 Square inches for my opening. My question is it okay to go bigger on the opening and...
NICE! That is how I was planning on doing mine. I just picked up 3 free 55 gallon drums. I just need to find the link for sizing of the sfb and the opening between the cooking chamber and the sfb. Let us know how it works!
Did my first attemp at St Louis spares on Friday Night. Did the slightly modified 3-2-1 method. Temps in the ECB stood a averaged 240 with the cool wind. In the smoke for 2.75hrs, foiled for 1.75 hours, and firmed up for 1 hr.
Coated with mustard and used Open Season Kansas City Rub along with...
Does anybody know where I can pick up a couple of 55 gallon barrels to make a horizontal UDS with SFB? My brother and I have this itch and it must be scratched.
Thanks in advance to all.
Yeah I think the bottom has stalled watching that one a little closer than the other. Oh well better have some more Capt and pepsi!! Could be a long night
