Finally getting back to this - I had to return the smoker - cudo's to Cabela's for making it a easy return (45 days old). I feel pretty positive that it was the power coating that came off. So here I am - Saturday afternoon and all is good. I've got a brisket and 3 racks of ribs on my Masterbuilt XL. The internal temp dropped to 180 and would not rise even with the gas on HIGH.
